Ring a ding ding ,... the kings ransom award today(all the gold and silver). :p
Top hunting Heatho. :D
I love those close up shots,... the one in the grass is a beaut. :p :D

Cheers fellas, gotta do an action shot when a nice ring shows up Silver. :)

I hope there's more there Wally, 20 I reckon lol.

I do GP, this one had me a little confused at first, it came up at 12:47 which is bang on for sterling silver (as I'm sure you already know) or junk copper pipe or some penny's so when a gold ring came out I was very surpised, I was expecting junk or Sterling. The silver ring came up the same 12:47-48.

Anyway I think the ring might be alloyed with high purity silver or copper, it's the only thing I can think of, it is gold and not plated or rolled gold, as specific gravity never lies.

The last ring just before Chrissy was a TID of 12:31, the 9k one with ruby from a while back was 12:30-31 and the 14k one with Diamonds I got ages ago comes up at 12:31 also.

So I guess some gold rings can give high tones and TID, I even double checked it when it came out and checked the hole to make sure there was no silver in there too.

Wow, that is pretty high on the conductivity, makes things even more confusing when looking for gold rings. I will still be sticking with around 12:30-31, considering the strike rate for those numbers is so much higher. Still, even with those numbers, you would still dig it presuming it be silver/copper, interesting. :)

Yeah totally agree mate, any TID that high has to be recovered for inspection. My friends 18k diamond ring comes up at 12:17, so I can't work gold out at all, it's all over the shop with the conductivity, though on the ferrous number it always seems to be 12, anything with a solid 12 I'll usually dig too hoping for gold, it's usually a pulltab though.

Nice Heatho, mate you are killing the gold, have to start a gold shop soon, given those beach detectorists a run for their money :8 ;)

hahaha gold baby! its hard not to say it when we find some. Looks like its english as there looks to be stamps on the inside of the gold ring - can you take some photos?

Cheers Bogan, no worries mate, seems a bit worn inside but here it is. Hope you can identify it, I have no idea. :)

She's worn alright 8)

Yeah sure is, normally they are not so bad. The SG test I did could be more accurate if I had better scales, I need some new gem scales, might buy some to do a propper SG test, though the one I already did came out at at least 18k. Anyway would be interesting to find out where it was made.

Thanks for the closer shot. You are right in that very worn, the stamp on the right looks Asian. There is a way you can check what it is and that's taking it to a gold buyer, otherwise investing in a gold testing kit from eBay. I'm lucky as I have friend who own gold buyer shops and have a machine called an XRF which can tell you electronically like an X-ray

Cheers for having a look, does look a bit Asian that design. Pretty sure the local cash converters or similar would have an XRF. I'm sure it's gold, just not sure of the purity.

The SG was between 15.2 and 19, just need better scales and it should give a reasonably accurate percentage, depending on the alloy of course. It's definitely in the 18k range or higher. I do SG tests all the time for ID'ng gemstones.

Here is a table of metal specific gravity.
