Hi to all
Ive just joined and become a member. used to come up to the golden triangle before Covid all the time but that and losing my partner put a damper on that.
Use to gold pan and fossick when i was a kid back in New Zealand. My dad would just pull over the car when we were out on a drive and dig around old ruins for torpedo bottles and marble bottles or a creek and a pan. My parents had a shop in a tourist town that also was part of the gold rush. Queenstown was a great place and just 10 miles out in the Arrow river the gold nuggets were in abundance. My older bro and his mate had a dredge and a pump and would use under water and snorkels; back in the 80s like the gear that Alaska gold show used before the show was even thought of. The equipment he used was top notch but cheap. Being a female I was not aloud and I was too young then but it was in my blood.
Panning in Vic was weird as i found gold where iron was sparse.
In NZ your gold is always with the Black. Its a great picture.
Anyway Ive got back into it with my son some weekends. Got some fine gold out of Creswick forrest ,bags we brought back. Samples.. Nothing to retire with but a little speck or to. im trying to get my son interested.
Funny thing is now hes getting on to me "when are we going"? but most of the time I go alone with my dog whos 14.
Thats why i want to go to creeks or rivers so he ,my Dog (Dusty) can swim while im trying to find a small version of the Welcome Stranger...omg I love that beautiful thing..
I want to get up to Reedy creek that everyone raves about. Anyone had any experience up there???
But its a wee drive and a bit further than time allows at the mo. Anyway been trying a few places lately with no luck but would really like to have a a few tips for creeks and rivers I could check not to far from Mel. Day trip like 2hrs one way. Today my son has a day off so where leaving soon. I wanted to go around Maryborough but i left it to late i think . Head towards some old ruins. I spose. Any rivers Creeks around Ballarat you can suggest I can take my dog and have a pan??
Really appreciate any directions to save time. And wish you all the best. Hope to see you out there. Excuse the mistakes. CB
