The Boss lady had a meeting in another town so I went along for a quick hunt. A bit over an hour for not a .of but I did get a chance to drive around a suss it out. Definately worth a proper hunt.
Some marks on the halfpenny make me believe there was something resting against it. You can see a pattern and some red paint or enamel. I checked the hole and the soil but couldn't find it. It's bothering me so tomorrow I'm going back to search more.

A quick overnight visit to mum n dad's. Of course I had to get a quick swing in. Went back to the site that has had 3 churches on it over the years. Empty block of land now. I think I have found the part of it where people gathered. A few more coins than my last quick visit. I'm pretty sure the jewellery piece is silver but can't find the hallmarks as yet. It is pretty scratched. Obviously part of a larger piece. Any ideas on what the stone could be? 4 roo pennies, 2 roo hapennies and 2 commy hapennies and the bbs of course.

Nice finds Rod, really not sure on that stone but sort of thinking along the same line as AR, probably glass...... but there are a few types of reddy purpley gemstones, Spinel, Garnets etc. The no hallmark makes me think it's nothing valuable......... If it were mine I'd remove the stone, do an SG test and if it's a higher SG than glass or quartz I'd get someone more experienced to check it out.

We need more abodoned church sites to regularly detect, pretty lucrative spots, and your finds prove as such. Not too much junk either which is a bonus, nice one. ;)

It's interesting. The last church on the site was a small wooden building erected in 1915. Mostly Only Dug Roo Pennies and Nothing REALLY old. Still finding bbs so it was used well into the modern coin Era. Just the one special find will make it a great site. It is easy to tell where the last church sat. There are 2 trees framing the pathway and the church has been dragged sideways into the block of land next door. The church wanted the building removed and this guy has restored his Victorian home and is in the process of restoring the church.

Maybe a nice silver crucifix will suffice. ;) Personally I've only detected one old Lutheran church in the past, with permission of the priest. Unfortunately he indicated that many other detectorists had already hit the grounds - without permission of course, needless to say I didn't find much. :(

Some of the older wooden churches would lose a few coins through the floorboards, that is if you are lucky enough to find an abandoned site that hasn't already been pilfered. Even better if you can figure out where everyone usually parks their vehicles for dropped gear. :)
