Forgot about this I found at Gosford. Square copper rivet. Maybe some boat building in the past. I certainly saw some prime spots to detect.

Decided to walk down to the railway station to see what the people attending Steamfest had dropped. I was swinging the detector over the grass beside the footpath and never got out of sight of the house. :D Plenty of trash. Only 2 coins. A modern and a pre Dec. Would you believe a florin? No? Good thing cause I'm full of it. ;)
Today's lesson... even if you plan to be home by dark, take your light.

Hey Rocketaroo,
Whats my chances of a florin or two turning up on old sporting oval like cricket field and old tennis courts from the turn of 19th century, I got a chance to look at an old sporting field and was wondering...Cheers

BJ

Hi BJ. Any coin can turn up anywhere. The more people that have been to a location the more chance of more coins dropped. Old sporting fields are a great place to detect. My last 2 florins have come from a very small park and a sporting field. No good asking rocketaroo about florins.... he hasn't found any :D Sorry Rocket, couldn't resist that one.

Where are we detecting next RJ? Lucky your detector is waterproof :)

As long as the sporting field is no longer in use it would be fine, but if still in use, the playing areas should definitely be avoided - just stick to the spectator areas and surrounds. I regularly detected the park/spectator areas of a cricket ground in Adelaide dating back to the mid 1800's, and have picked up quite a few pre-decs over years, including a few florins and quite a few other silvers. A lot of these were found in rougher areas that other detectorists failed to look over previously.

Sick of sitting in the house so I grabbed the detector and snorkel and headed to a spot within swimming distance of home. ;)
I was there may be ten minutes when #3 son called to say he was returning a bar fridge and set of drawers he borrowed. He said he didn't realize we'd had a moat installed. So I paddled home to carry the fridge and drawers through the water.
So no florins today. Luckily I'm still raking the BBs in.
