At least it was a solid repeatable signal on the Ace, considering the playground is shared with the school, as there's junk targets littering the place. Takes some patience to try and single out a decent target from the bad ones. Probably should have used the sniper coil, was too lazy to remove the large concentric. Go away bloody rain! :p

come on gold pick, i was on the beach in the gail winds! best time as no one is around

I thought about going down to the beach, may go down tonight if the weather holds - did you run into any icebergs out there? :D

haha yeah i did, they were attached to my legs. I was thinking of hitting west beach or glenelg after all that high wind action

on the 1919 sixpence, awwwwe that's beauutifuul, and I do mean that sincerely , what a great find, speaking of great finds, I found a 1913 florin the other day I will have to post a picture on my pictures of last years silver post. immediately. Honestly wine and all !
This is an uncleaned silver for sniffing purposes, IE training the nose to sniff out silver leached dirt.

Geez was it cold tonight, even wearing thermals underneath. Visited two spots in the hills, not too many coins, but I picked up a real nice 1911 half penny once again under a tree and yet another modern dog tag. The half penny still has great detail and a nice patina on it, just gave it a quick clean with bi-carb. :)

Back to the same spot that I found the half penny at, this time with the sniper coil fitted. Picked up a few $2 coins that I had missed last time close to the play equipment, and what do you know, another half penny (1942) found yet again at the base of a tree. :)

Good stuff Goldpick , these last 2 outings.... Grassy park or bark playground? Or a bit of both? Im trying to get my head around retrieving targets with screwdriver method . That video with the yank in the park with the pink hanky ... That guys targets were about 2" down at most , the park is so lush and the ground is soft ( text book perfect condition) . Ive been noticing from your pictures, i would assume that your ground is a sandy loam and reasonably soft/easy digging . The conditions in my parks and even the well maintained grass lawn i was digging on the farm, are clay based dirt and bloody hard and dry. The digging i did on the farm was a learning exercise. I used a 6" wide spade, cut down through the grass on 3 sides( by jumping on the spade)around target(aprox 4" deep) then folded the flap over exposing the hole. This worked quite well with very little evidence of any activity.this is exactly the result i assume we all want to achieve. What im aiming at here is i want to search some parks but certainly dont want to do any damage. Im not sure that a bloke ( see avatar ) with a detector in one hand and shovel in the other wandering around the park is going to be perceived in a good way. First appearances and assumptions are lasting

Sandta, on the farm, you could just mark your targets and then use a watering can to wet them up a few times. That way they will be easy digging when you get to them and the grass will recover easily afterwards. In the park, a lot of people like the fact that you are also picking up visible ground rubbish and dumping any rubbish from in the ground. I think they are amazed at the fact that someone would dig up buried rubbish that they can't even see just to help clean up the park !

Unfortunately the screw driver method only applies to targets you can detect with the pin pointer... I unearthed a few coins at the 6 and 8 inches in a park recently and would not have been able to locate them with a screwdriver as 4-5 inches of soil needed to be removed before the pin pointer could do it's stuff... and if you think about it - pre dec coins would be deeper generally then the modern coins. One way or another you will need to gracefully cut a plug to find the prize... :)

My screwdriver has been left in the car lately due to digging deeper targets. After losing my garrett digger a while back, I now just use a bunning $3 special trowel with serrated edges, does a pretty good job. Since the blade is a lot flatter than most gardening trowels, it makes digging plugs much more neater, and if it gets lost, no big deal.

Gday silver , i did think about water , in that , the ground would be much different if we werent in such dry/drought times . Digging holes or wrecking the lawn on the farm isnt really an issue , the oldies are very easy going and would/will take care of it if needed. I am interested in seeing how those patches recover though . Its more about a suitable method that can be applied to a public place ,without leaving evidence that may offend some nosey do-gooder only too keen to call in the fun police.

I had a play in the bark on my way home from the job this evening...

17x5c (13 were in one spot, directly under the structure), 1x$2 , a large brass like button , an unopened No-Doze tablet :p , and some kind of toy... The centre is glass like( image/word washed out/faded) i think the centre is supposed to spin within the ring

That's ok Sandta I answer anywhere top anything anytime(especially with the missus and trouble)' everyone should detect their own backyard first, as this is a personally sensitive area and you will definitely learn to feel the right way about digging and filling holes properly(like you do) and you end up with better holes out in the general public areas because of it. Daughter found a 2c coin in our backyard yesterday, I had to tell her it wasn't silver, she just smiled and said "my first copper". I also heard her telling her older brother to be careful when he was digging with her, so he wouldn't scratch it if it was a coin.

Lol, and who said kids don't learn from their parents! Just don't let them watch Deep Digger Dan on you tube, or you'll be hearing "come on, get in" all the time. :D

I have been spending money like its going out of fashion lately, mainly for the new Explorer SE Pro which should lob up on my doorstep on Tues.

First up some protective gear to keep things in good order (detector bag, control box cover, spare carbon fibre lower rod, and some coil bolts for the second coil).

Secondly, I managed to pick up a Coiltek little joey DD coil quite cheaply for working in junky ground.

And lastly, a decent stainless sand scoop .

Can't wait to get started back down the beach again once everything has rocked up! ;)

Go Goldpick, that'll be an extra area to get into by the looks of it. how waterproof is it?(I couldn't see more than waterproof in the specs)

Stock coil on the explorer is waterproof, but the coiltek one is only water resistant, hence the mega cheap run out price of $85 for it. Won't be using the Joey coil down the beach anyway, mainly the stock coil or larger.
