I went back to the same beach tonight for another go with the Infinium, but unfortuntely encountered sinker heaven! Also a .22 shell casing, a couple of lead bullets, inlcuding a splattered lead hollowpoint, brass knob, and a few bits of copper. I think the large metal frame is a rod holder of some sort. Once again, rain had me bolting for the car. :)

If only lead were gold! It was actually good fun picking out all the sinkers, and pretty easy for the finny. Most of them were either lodged under rocks, or imbedded in the clay just off the beach. I was going to go for a couple of kilos, but rain intervened. ;)

Back to tot lotting and park detecting with the Ace tonight, it was bloody freezing and wet, and was coming down with some gastro on the way out which didn't help. Still, with clenched butt cheeks, I was able to visit a few spots and managed to weed out a few coins before heading home, straight for the toilet!

You need to get an emergency kit installed in your vehicle comprising of a long handled shovel and one of those pistol grabbing devices so you don't need to bend over.

I really need to get some knee pads, reckon I'm starting to feel the toll of kneeling down countless times over the last couple of years. Life supposedly starts at 40, but my knees are telling me otherwise! Already had one knee operation in my 20's, so not looking to repeat the same exercise. :)

For work I used to use the plastic capped knee pads, great for rocky ground, but they would eventually crack, plus the straps would really dig in around the back of the legs. Something like what you bought with a hard front cover would be ideal.

Hard Yakka heavy duty work pants from bigW have inbuilt slots for knee pads, might be worth a look as you won't need to have elastic straps around the knees.

How loose are the pants fit?

If they are not tight around your
Legs what chances do you have for
The padding area to be at the right
Place when bending over?

The option is to dedicate a pair of jeans
And have the padding stitched in.

Here are a few finds from last nights wander down the beach, not a hell of a lot, but good to get out and get some fresh air. A few squid jags at the high tide line, some bit of lead, including one splattered hollow point, couple of dog tags, lots of pesky nails including a few copper ones, and lastly couple of dec coins.

Just to show how sensitive the 8" mono coil is on the infinium, the second photo show a very small globe the Finney picked up very close to the surface. As you can see, the filament is extremely fine, and whilst I always pick up small fine pieces of wire, this is pretty damned small. :)

Back down to my local park tonight, not exactly a good night for junk to coin ratio (running all metal). Oldest coin was 1968, the same spot where I found the rising sun, unfortunately the ground is quite mineralised, so had to back off the sensitivity on the Ace a fair bit to get it stable.

Also found some open holes dug by someone with a bloody shovel, lucky for them I backfilled the holes, but not happy all the same.

Oh well, looks like no detecting for a week, as I have managed to get some work at last in the north of SA - yay! ;)

After a week off from detecting, I was eager to head out to get my fix over and done with, before the rain sets in for the night. I took the Ace down to a school that shares its playground with a public oval, the playground is currently being renovated, so I thought it would be a good spot to detect over the excavated ground. Not a huge haul, but enough to keep one busy. The highlight of the night was picking up my first sixpence at the foot of a large tree next to some play equipment - hallelujah!

The sixpence is dated 1919, and is in remarkable condition, with only a light cleaning with bi-carb required to get it shining. It still amazes me where you find these things, usually somewhere where you least expect to find pre-decs. :)

Well done GP. I have found pre-decs around trees, including a 1867 penny in good nick in the parklands. mbe people sat there for shade. I had a theory that perhaps the coins were put there for the copper content when the trees were planted,as I found about a dozen pennies and halfs
in tree roots, and the dates roughly corresponded to the age/size of the trees. found about $12 in goldies around a tree in a city parkland where
some gather to booze on. also, in the bad old days, kids used to climb trees, hard to believe now eh. found a nice 47 florin in tree roots near a scout hall
once also. your 6p came up well,an oldie. cheers.
