Going by today's finds I may be onto something awesome, I only had 10 minutes before we had to go and pick son up from Preschool and I am glad I did stop for a quick swing at a place I have always wanted to try, it is a very public place and lots of foot traffic back in the day also there was an old house somewhere around this area which I haven't found yet.
The size of 3 football fields and only down the road from where we are moving too.

Will be going back later on to see what else comes from this spot. :)

Well I went back to the spot and for the first hour nudda, nothing but rubbish....I moved around slowly all over the same area which was funny because I did a line one way and no signals then turn around and go back the other way on the same line signals....I have no idea why but anyway a mixed bag of finds and my first Threepence in great condition 1943......Oh the Half Penny and Half Cent are priceless finds... lol

I did the same at the 1850s location with the 705, not sure why it won't pick up the targets at certain angles.

Well that gilt certainly cleaned up well eh?...though the pitting is still a worry (per our PM) but adds character as is... :Y:

P.S., Just to let you know, as it's likely Georgian or earlier, it is equal to the best quality (in terms of thickness) as i'm able to do....not some junky 'flash' coat that will wear within weeks... ;)

(that 'other' ring i did, weighed just under 7g Gold P/Silver...)

*Edit*....a visit to the jeweller (or friend) and a rub on the buffer will bring that up real nice..

For a gilt item ofcthat age I would usually expect some sort of wear to the gold layer, especially on the edges or inside the ring. Must be aweful thick gilt. :/

I forgot about the "gilt" marking.

Nice finds there GDA..Congrats on the first thrip.. :D with the problem of only picking targets up in one direction ...if its the 705....are you doing a auto noise cancel first ...then an auto ground balance (not a manual one)....if yes ...than maybe slow down your sweeps.....or speed them up...or maybe your just not overlaping your sweeps...or walking too fast and missing sections of the ground.. :D :Y: ..Hope you get that problem sorted as you look like you've found a great spot. :Y:

Mate I was walking at a snails pace, swinging low and slow.....The 505 never missed a target and was always best swinging fast. I will play around a bit more with the 705, I noticed the auto balance has some noise so going back to manual once auto is done and slowly adjusting quietens down the noise. Cheers :)

Cool...there has to be a reason you only getting targets one direction...though ive never had that problem with my 705...it also prefers a faster sweep...ive found with the 18.75khz coil if i sweep to slow it can sometimes mask a target in descrimination mode :Y: Hope you find out you issue :Y:
