The Shilling is still not doing too well Silver, though might need a few days in it.
Cheers Numpty.
Gp, no mate I wouldn't have a clue what was there originally, I've been using a Sydney 1943 air map overlay on Sixmap, it shows it as a cricket oval in 1943, there are market gardens nearby and a creek. Might have been a swamp, though one council worker mentioned to me that it may have originally been a landfill site, still would not have a clue if he's right or not. Have found plenty along the treeline with the dirtpile, the treeline on the other side is pretty much a creek bank, I reckon there should be old coins there but I'm betting it's full of Paralysis Ticks and I'm not going in there.
The dirtpile side treeline has produced heaps of pre decimals, moderns, including the 2 gold rings and about 6 siver rings from that oval. Pretty much the whole oval has pockets of stuff, in winter it's divided up into soccer and footy fields with 100's of people congregating the sidelines there each weekend.
GT, it was difficult to work out where to start, at first I was wandering up and down the marked footy sidelines as that's where most stuff like modern coins and silver rings have been, then since spring the sidelines aren't marked so I wandered around a bit looking for patches, then gridding the patches until finds ran out and then moving on to new patches. The last 2 months I've been religiously doing the tree area from the dirtpile up and down, finished it now though. Around the dirtpile must have yielded about 50 silvers, including the ones from a few days back.
I've spent about 6 months doing this spot a few days a week and I reckon there is still a lot left to do. So far I reckon this site has given me 1/2 kilo of silvers and about 20 silver rings, plus 2 gold and about $1500 in goldies.
