True Atom. I've had a few ratbag kids from hopeless backgrounds come out bush in the shearing sheds, and once they do an honest days work, earn a few bucks and meet a few real people they generally never look back. Any one of my peers is worth ten thousand pollies or pompous gits.

The day they banned the cane at school and banned parents from giving them a propper belting is the day the wheels fell off....... The cane or a belting was the consequence of being an a-hole and not showing respect.

Also the cops used to dish out some pretty good hidings for anyone who stepped out of line. Not these days.

Bad parents breed rotten kids, simple. Kids just need to learn these days that respect is earned and not a given right.

Anyway the 18 year old kid who attacked me with a bottle one night trying to roll me when I left a pub got the hiding of his life, lol, then was arrested and fined about $1200. Cops even got me a cab. :D

Hahh... i once got the cane for forgetting my pencil in woodworking class.

Parents won't teach their kids the difference between what's right and what's wrong, years ago teachers had a little "power" to educate them but not today.

The present legal system is set up to protect the guilty, not the victim.

The present prison system is no deterrent to criminals of any age, many uneducated criminals have it worse at home. The legal system thinks that prisons are a learning center for young criminals and do all they can to keep them out of the system when in actual fact if you look at the facts they are completely wrong. If you work on the figures that a young criminal probably commits 10 crimes for every one that he is convicted for ( a very conservative estimate) and is then let off with about 10 warnings before he is getting close to the stage of being put away, he is already an entrenched criminal.

For any legal system to be effective there has to be a deterrent that is severe enough to make the person think twice before doing the wrong thing. Thanks to the do-gooders this is no longer the case in Australia. If I had control of the prisons it would be quite different.

I think a possible solution has been suggested already, give Judges the power to sentence young criminals to military service. A couple of years in the army would straighten out most delinquents and the thought of it would deter many into making bad choices. Many are already unemployed and receiving welfare so the cost would be negligible. National service is still mandatory in many countries including France so even the do-gooders can't say the punishment is extreme. Even a 15 year old delinquent would benefit from some good military style discipline.

If there is no deterrent then things will just get worse and then people will start to enforce the law themselves.

Reckon you summed it up there Magilla!

Every person I know that has "had" to "earn" respect, is, by and large respectful of those around them.

There is no easily solution, but, there has to be one! or the proverbial will hit the fan in a big big way!!!!! :|

Crazy days ahead ay!!! 8)

These problems start at the top. The severest penalties should be for abuse and misuse of power. Pollies shafting the people should be put to death, and lying coppers making false statements should go to jail for a long, long time. That would get rid of 99% of the pollies, and a few coppers. The biggest problem is these groups are self-regulating-cronyism at its' glaring worst. What they and the delinquent teenagers have in common is an absolute contempt for society. Compound that with narcissistic superiorism, and there you have the criminal parasites running/ruining the country.
A privileged upbringing results in the most sinister and destructive harm to society through the contempt it breeds for the poorest. People don't choose to be poor or uneducated. They are denied opportunity by a society slanted towards the wealthy, by the wealthy. And THAT is the ultimate criminality.

I really don't think anything has changed all that much over the last 50 years.

Just today we hear about it almost immediately and spread it across the globe almost immediately.

People 50 years ago were still getting beaten, robbed, conned ect.
Gay people were getting bashed blacks were getting bashed or worse.

What is needed is to raise living standards and education....... That includes education for potential parents about parenting.

Because with intelligence and knowledge comes better smarter choices.

It's a long term way to go about it.... I think the short term bandaids have just made things worse and confusing.

Evolution happens!!!! ;)

IMO always has and probably will. 8)

Can be a bit frustrating at times too! :/

Well thought out and written posts folks :)

Cheers and beers,

Billy.

There is truth in everyones posts here.

Think about this, inflated real estate prices mean both parents need to work in most cases.
They both need to leave home early to comute, and return home a bit late too.
This means they don, t cook as much at home, and share a meal, around the dinner table, it s take away, and dinner in front of the box.
The kids don, t get the attention they crave from their parents, so rebel against them in order to get some attention, even if its negative, they are punishing their parents in a way. So we can blame greedy govenments for they way the country is, after all, western govenments reley on us to be in financial debt, its the only way to keep the ants in the ant hill being productive, because if we arnt in debt, we don, t need to work as much or generate a high income. Its a failed system in a way. It leads to people taking short cuts in order to get ahead, and most short cuts are illeagal and negative to society, and its not going to change for a while......

Here's a simplified analogy. An old shearer said to me that when he started shearing, 1 sheep shorn would buy him 3 (750ml) bottles of beer or a tin of tobacco. Now he would need to shear 4 sheep for 3 bottles or 15 for a tin of tobacco.

Its hard work any way you look at it!

Sheep is what "they" want us to be.

Not as easily managed as some would think! ;)

Its been a great read in here.

Where I live, which is outer suburb / country east of Melb, wineries spill chemicals into the waterways and strip the mountains ( not to mention destroying goldfields which are supposibly heritage listed ), then they have their 2mil house on top of the mountain which no ones ever been allowed to strip before so they have a view.. shops here were once milkbars and local business for trade, now though, between the derelict shopfronts that sell art deco kitchen tops and fake 'hippie' stuff ordered from bali which no one buys. Tourists pour in, so now its declared a 'tourist zone'..prices even on milk have soared. Living has become expensive and the town have very little to offer to the original residents.

Carparks and roads cannot hold the number of vehicles now, so traffic jams and more accidents / deaths ( mostly under 30s ).. the way they fix this is by putting cops and fixed speed cameras everywhere. Then you can't get to work at all when your license is lost if caught even 3km over the speed limit. Driving in such frustrating traffic when i could be home in 2mins, now turned 20mins and a lot of angry drivers are out there. A recent 3.2 billion dollars were put into the roads..now I was expecting new road surfaces and actual works..but it seems 3.4billion can only afford speed signs limiting 80kmh to 50kmh at every chance they get, and adding bumper rails around the highways, which imo, bounce cars directly back into traffic, causing worse accidents.

There is litterally nothing for teens or mid 20s to do here but go to the pub and drink while business owners and rich folk from far away basically destroy what we once had. Within all this stress for young families, they bring out new laws which causes the suicide rate to soar and parents expelled from their children in a blink of an eye. Divorce and seperation has become an ill trend. I've lost soo many friends to car accidents, drugs, death and murder - all which could have been prevented. The government, the cops, the now, needs to fix it for the future.

Cigarrettes and alcohol should be banned from shelf sales. GPS devices should be fixed to cars and speed limits when manufactured to prevent speeding completely. Australian jobs should be kept for Australians. If I can figure solutions from my shed but a whole society of laws and government can't.. what motivation do we have in life, knowing how temporarily misplaced the past years have been, and still seeing no REAL movements to fix it..but merely more 'cover up' attempts.

As stated earlier by Tim, LC75 and others, withought work and 'something to do' ( knowledge ).. the place crumbles. What do we do it when it crumbles? Throw out the trash.... easy way out again and leaves many families in a position they will never get out of.

I don't expect anyone to like my comment here, its what I see with my own eyes and what I live in ( summarized largely ) Its fine with me if you dissagree

*edited back in but if causes argument pls remove*

glad you pit it back up Atom, its worth reading, and comparing whats going on in other parts of this once great and care free country.

One point that I reckon is spot on and 100% on the money, is that everyone needs purpose, and jobs provide that.
Both sides of politics fail us here. The ALP create fake jobs, by "leaking" illeagal immigrants in the country, then set up "detention centres" to keep them here, each detention centre needs to be manned by security, needs to be catered for, a n industrial laundry needs to be set up , and guess what, its big buisness who wins again! This time its the land owner who leases the land for the detention centre, big buisness who cater for them, etc etc and in the mean time, all they do is ask the new immigrants to vote for them.

The other side price work overseas, and jobs in this country just cant compete with the product from china, korea or where ever.

A few indapendents seem to be trying to the right thing by us, Nick Xenaphon in SA seems to be trying to do the righty, Andrew Wilkie in Tassie, and the Mad Katter in Qld all appear to have their hearts in the right places, but the big parties, well screw me, they don, t do whats right for us, not the greens, not the Libs and not the ALP.....the Nats, used to, but unfortunatly they have sold out to the libs as well.

Next election, we should all push for independants, their inexperience will show for a while, but the only way for them, is to throw em in the deep end, and sack the main players.

Agree with most what you have written however the above paragraph has been around since the beginning of civilisation and it is the business owners & rich who did something about it.
Maybe it is these same young people who should get out there and find an interesting sideline themselves, not wait for someone to spoon feed them.
Many years ago I lived in a small town on the West coast and young ones visiting from the big smoke, Perth, complained, "What a boring place, nothing to do?"
This small town had every kind of sport, wonderful bush spots, magnificent beaches for diving & swimming and the list goes on and on.
And the visitors were bored because there was no nightclub to kick on until the wee small hours then sleep until the sun was over the yard arm and it started all over again. Very boring.

It's the guvment who are most addicted to durries and grog-their reliance on those taxes is wholly criminal. As it is the lower socio-economic groups who are mostly disadvantaged by this criminality. Yep. Take 'em off the shelves. Decriminalise self-sufficiency. Brew your own. Grow your own. Buy from the bloke down the street. If he's too dear, get it somewhere else. If that's too hard. Give up.
Small/simple solar/electric cars would stifle fuel company criminal profits, slow the atmospheric poisoning, ease traffic congestion and slow road wear, and stop the drunk DHs in their V8s boaring around all night.
Roadside barriers are just a bandaid. Sure we need trucks on the roads- especially since they closed down the railway. All those jobs gone, along with the power and water and telecom/PMG. All in the name of making some sleazy c**k sucker somewhere richer. Offshore whoring of jobs and disenfranchising communities is another wholesale criminality of the highest order. That's Capitalism for ya.
Bring back tarriffs and subsidies. Make Australia self-sufficient again-no cost is too high to do that. And distance Australia from the Global Ponzi scheme which trades in bad debt and misery to make those at the top rich.
On the news the other day. The 62 richest people in the world earn as much as the 3.2 BILLION poorest. Seppo-capitalism I call it. It is criminality of the highest order.
Use your preferences next election to put the major parties at the bottom.
