I have fairly good success with bicarb and CLR, although there are a percentage of coins that do not respond and will need something extra in the future (when I find it out), until then they just have to wait their turn.

(I am talking about silver coins only here).

Bicarb worked great on the florin. And 1927 3 pence. Amazing stuff. Do you let the coin sit in the mixture or immediately scrub it with the mixture?

I make a very slightly damp paste up and let that sit on the coin for a little bit, then apply a little pressure and then gently slide the mix off and re apply, if it's working the bicarb mix starts to get dirty and you can see that the crud and dirt is going into the bicarb mix,.. I make sure that I never actually rub the bicarb against the coin as that will lead to harsh scratching (like a powder cleanser) that you can see if you look at the coin with a loupe.

Looking back over your posts I would have picked that 1927 sixpence as the one that would have cleaned up AOK,... did you throw them all in the lemon juice together ? , as this may off had an impact on what happened for you,.. lime juice is even more harsh than lemon juice, but they both have a terrible impact on copper,... or the copper in with other things.

Hi silver thanks for your advice for the future. I only put the florin in lemon juice to begin with. Then realised bicard was the way to go and used that method on the three pence and six pence. Unfortunately i did scrub a bit hard with my thumb. Next time ill know to.be.more gentle.

That's the way Treasureman,.... let the bicarb do all (most) of the work.

Any ideas on these rocks? The smaller ones scratch gold/copper shiby colour. And the big one is an odd shape. All readibgs above 50 on the detector. Copper ore? The big one? Non magnetic.

Sometimes gold is found with a black coating on the outside,.... I won't ask where you found it.
Top picture, Mrs Silver says "Aboriginal tool ?"

I thought the same thing silver. An aboriginal weapon head that would have attached to a wooden handle. The stones i think are copper ore after removing the patina is like a copper colour

My thought is it could be an old aboriginal skinning tool. Looks like the hand could get a good grip around it leaving the protrusion to skin and gut a kill before throwing it on the fire.

Just a thought.

Could be my eclectic friend. The rock responds to detector 50+. Not iron. Its definitely an aboriginal tool. Boggles me they knew to use sucks a strong metallic rock. Smarter than our scientists make out they were

Finally, my internet fixed. Now i can use my camera, not my phones camera. And this will be much easier now.
Today bit of this bit of that. 1 x musket ball, few dollars, and got a all over the place reading and decided to dig it. Turned out to be a plate, already smashed, a glass plate already smashed too ( may have been when i first started digging) but luckily these two bottles survived. The brown one has a date of 1956. So 2 bottles from the 50's in beautiful condition after cleaning them ( ive found best to clean the inside and out with washing detergent). I also found an interested rusted item that is in electrolysis now not sure what it is but it looks old and interesting shape.

was just too hot sandta to keep on going. The spot i hit today was open with no trees so in the sun and sweating every second. Glad i took water otherwise id have been gone.
Found one penny, then thought better scan this area. they hit a hole 6 metres away with 6 pennys in the same hole, then another, and then close by 2 six pence. not sure of the dates yet, but some old penny's there. Going to clean them shortly. Will hit the same spot again tomorrow as i have the day off work.

The pennys cleaned up well, however the six pence having trouble removing the black stuff. Sat in bicarb paste for 10 mins and gently rubbed but only some came off. Any tips suggestions?

Silver foil and a bit of vinegar - a basic form of electrolysis- was the only thing that worked on my badly black sulphided florin.
wrap the coin in foil with a few drops of vinegar, lemon juice- acid- . check regularly.
