nucopia, MATE !!

You pinched my old gear ! LOL

After I read your first post and replied, I went back and saw that it was only a couple of hours between 'motivated' and 'Brew on'.

I thought JEEZ he was moving to do that. LOL

Good on you, I'll be getting Kato to read thru all the thread on the weekend, just to see the variety of how it can be done, and speed LOL

If you lived here, I would give you some bottles, but they would be clear, just box them when filled.

Here is to seeing your results.

Cheers GH ..
This is the first brew I have made in ages (2-3 yrs) every thing was stored in the shed, sterilized with baby bottle solution before packing away..just pulled it out of the shed gave it a rinse out and resterilized every thing again.. before that i drove to our local woolies and grabbed a bottle of Milton anti-bacterial ,a can of wort (woolies home brand larger ) a kilo of dextros, some bottle caps and a pack of coopers carbination drops .. cost me about $23
I just follow the instructions on the can.. mix wort with hot water and stir, then add the dextros and stir until every thing is well mixed ,then add cold water to 23 litres . If every thing is then between 20<30 deg add the yeast , seal the lid and put in the air lock ..
Its now happily bubbling away ..I will check its Specific Gravity SG with a hydrometre next Friday , if its SG is 0.5 ,its ready for bottling ...
I also might visit the brew shop today and get a different wort for the next brew..
Now my only issue is that the digger cashed in all my 750 ml bottles at the recycling station a while back, so I need to restock ...

Nice to see you Post Jaros.

Coopers Stout, is the Brew that Miss 3yrs is about to do, plans for the day have changed 3 times already,
so she will have to be supervised later tonight.

Maybe Kato can help her little sister, which ever way, it will be a family affair with all of us home tonight.
Like Detecting, they all want to know about it even if they dont practise.

I hear we may be eating pizza for dinner ????

Better to have a look at http://www.aussiedistiller.com.au/index.php?sid=64ac6eafff169a41e48b0279330e150b

"I know nuffing as Sergeant Shultz would say" but you might find my name in there somewhere O:)

I asked about 'still's' at the brew shop, apparently all good to do for personal use, you can give it to friends or use yourself,
BUT dont ever sell it and get caught, the cost of that will never fade.
Apparently a big offence, Tax man and Customs can chase you.

Years ago we distilled some grappa from wine scraps, it was a slow process and pretty strong.
That grappa was then turned into Limoncello which was pretty nice, stick it into the freezer to chill, it never freezes.

Syrup and thick over fruit, ice cream etc, but straight in a chilled glass is good too, dont need a lot. :drooling:

Why not add distilling into this thread ? :Y:

It's about making stuff, our interests and skills to share.

Wishfull -
Take it to a brew shop and they will teach you how to use it and what products work, as I understand it 'filtering' the distilled
liquid thru a carbon filter makes a big difference, and some of the first liquid can have bad/toxic esters in it, so it is thrown away.
Does it have a vertical cylinder out of the top ?
Can you put up pic's ?

Just a stock Google image, but that is what its like. LIMONCELLO

I lived with an old chap who distilled, lotsa rum n whiskey, brings back memories, rip John, miss ya stories and your ol sense of humor mate.
Guy at work distills, but never bothered myself, a quiet homebrew beer is enough, I know I'll just get in trouble with high alcohol stuff laying around.

Yeah got the carbon filter. Bro inlaw used to filter it twice I think. He said the first bit he used for putting in his windscreen washer bottle on his 4x4. Used to clean the bugs offf really well.

I csn post some pictures of what I've got later
if you like

Magoo, a good read and hopefully completely accurate, so I guess basically the ATO will chase you if you let them know it is for Booze
and you pay on everything it makes.

So anyone doing it - get educated or licensed, and do your Due Diligence I suppose.

But there are a lot of Ethnics out there making for home use, and for years and years. Hope they dont get caught. :Y:

LOL

So EASY even a 3yr old can do it. But smells yucky. :D :D

Just for Jaros, my Miss 3yrs was hounding me all afternoon and evening to make Ginger Beer, then when I told her we didnt have it,
she swapped to - "real Beer" !

So at around 9.00pm I had to get organised for her, we setup in the kitchen including a set of steps for her to be able to reach the tub.

Tub
Tap
Can of Stout - "REAL BEER"
Can opener
Scales to measure half a can off into another container
Container
Hot water
Cold water
Lid for tub

First she opened the plastic cap on the can and pulled off the yeast pack, then we opened the can, and poured off 850gm of mix to freeze.

Next she poured the rest of the can contents into the tub.

Topped up the tub with cold and hot water to the 10L mark,
(I did not know she recognised numbers, picked the 10 first shot after looking at the legend on the side of the tub,
but I should not be surprised, earlier today she correctly identified a Rainbow Lorikeet passing us at 100mph  )

Tipped the yeast into the tub and stirred it all a little.

She put the lid on and I clipped it up before we delivered it to Kato's room for 'cooking'

Miss 3yrs raced down the hallway celebrating her success to Mum and sisters - " I made REAL BEER "
Then after a trip to the bathroom, she was asking about taking the beer out into bottles !! LOL
Told her she had to wait until next weekend, it had to cook - "OK"

God bless her little heart, she is awesome.

She has all the bits together

Checking correct measurement

Has a smell, tells me she doesnt like it ! LOL
1554464686_img_1914.jpg

The rest of the can into the tub
1554464827_img_1916.jpg

Filled to the correct volume
1554464828_img_1917.jpg

Stir the mix
1554464828_img_1918.jpg

Up on tippy toes to inspect
1554464829_img_1919.jpg

Yeast in, and then she stirred it again
1554464974_img_1920.jpg

Lid on and clipped down
1554464974_img_1921.jpg

"Take it out now, into bottles ??"
1554464975_img_1924.jpg

Oh wow that is awesome GH
We have friends who's son just graduated from uni as a vintner -wine maker ..he is off to France to work for a wine maker over there all expenses paid.. amazing opportunity..
Im just happy my son and daughter work for woolies at BWS and are always bringing home different things to try.. :p
I get the left overs :Y:

Mate the bottles are sorted .. when my mums boyfriend aged 92 ( a home brewer ) found out I needed bottles , he gave me 30 long necks .. :inlove:

Yes nucpoia,

When you teach the kids something you never know what it may trigger in their future, even if it is just a happy memory of being little and doing something with Dad.
AND I am a very firm believer that kids are never too young to learn or be responsible as age allows.

My earliest memory is of sitting on a rug watching Mum fishing off of rocks - I was so young I wasnt walking yet.

I feel my job is to just give them all as many experiences as I can before they are gone or I am gone. :inlove:

:Y:

Glad to know the bottles are sorted, looking forward to the results of yours.

As for Miss 3yrs brew I think it may need a boost, yeast is slow, will give it another day. ;)

Well Miss 14yrs brew has been bottled for 2 weeks and it is ready for the next taste test.

After doing some work for her Nonno today, she pulled one from the fridge and poured her
own glass and it looked fine but not a very good head of bubbles.

1554544106_img_1925.jpg

1554544149_img_1926.jpg

So I gave her an example of how to pour

1554544199_img_1927.jpg

The colour was good, the flavour was like a red brown beer from the UK,
a bit bitter compared to other beers she has tasted (dipping a finger to taste)

1554544250_img_1929.jpg

Nonno was comfortable with the flavour, but not his preferred of West End - LOL

We will see if it develops over time but I doubt it as it was as basic as you can Brew.
Being a UK brand of can mix I wasnt surprised at the flavour.

However the head settled out too fast and there was hardly any bubbles coming out
of the glassed beer.

Can anyone suggest what can be done to improve that end of it please ?
Miss 14 would like to improve her skills.

I like your style Rock, LOL she will be tickled pink with that, its the way I feel about a glass of Coke - forget the ice please.

LOL, more beer for the buck.

Looks like Miss 14 got the beer pouring right. Fitted more into the glass and saves people getting a beer mustache. :Y: They only put a head on beer in the pubs because they can't pour it right.

Cheer
