Not "just" a florin, but a commemorative one at that - that is most certainly on my bucket list! The sovereign holder is a good clue that some gold may be lurking around that spot, better dig all those mid 60's and 70's. ;)

Full house hunt on the PDs RJ,.. Throw in a 54 florin and a few nice old silvers,.. And a silver ring to boot,.. Nor forgetting your coin holder find,.. What an absolutely great day out to have under your belt,.... Hats off to you RJ,......well deserved too! :) .

Thanks for that advice GP. I'll go back and search more around where I found it.

Today I had 2 meetings with 3 hours between, so off detecting I go. Tried one spot for 40 minutes for 1 penny and trash. Next I returned to a good honey hole and I wasn't disappointed. All the coins in pic 1 plus the relics smashed out in 2 hours. One interesting find is the cube within a cube within a cube. Unfortunately whatever was stuck to the front of the medallion has gone. I searched in the hole for it but no good.

On the way home I stopped to test another spot for about 40 minutes and got the goodies in the bottom pic. It was good enough to tell me there are plenty of goldies and a few pre decs to be had. I did get 3 x $2 in a mini coin spill.

I can see a long necked sheeps head looking to the left on that Meddalion RJ,.... the Chardonay was preety good last night as well though.

2 florins and an 1889 threepence are the day's top finds. Wasn't sure what the threepence was until I got it home.
Lesson today from Rocket. He says I swing too fast and today he proved I am missing good targets. He went over a small patch I had pulled 1 penny from and he got 1 penny,1 sixpence and a 1 cent. It was a top little spot. As I dug my florin, Rocket was a metre away pulling out a sixpence. :D

The 3 pence is the worst corrosion on any silver I have found. Ideas on how to clean it up?

Something iron, must have rusted onto that thrip, it maybe a good case for electrolysis? You florin finger lol I spotted another site, on the way out, with even more potential ;)

Nothing like a two florin hunt, you guys are blessed with some awesome sites around your area. Electrolysis will hopefully do the 3p some justice, should get rid of that iron staining and coating. :)

You must hold a different dictionary to me

??? 8)

A shilling plus a couple of sixpences and a hand full of gold and a mob of Roos = "nothing exciting to report"

Either I have very low expectations on the definition of exciting or you have been spoilt by easy ground oozing coins or I missed the irony.

I have been spoilt I think by a couple of honey holes that have produced bulk coins. :8
