Thanks Sheryl, it was pretty cool detect wasn't it, bit like discovering lost treasure. ;) Even better now we have a button indicating a direct link to the settlers of the area. :)

Nice hunt mate, always good to get some old Chinese coins. My flatmates friend Kate is Chinese and reckons sometimes they used to sew them into the hemline on trousers for good luck also, I once asked her about the coins. Though interesting what GT said too.

Nipped out for a quick detect after work at a local park, wasn't the most enthralling place to detect, though still managed a 1961 & 1947 penny and a Donald Bradman 20c.

The dump truck was labelled as Ford Garbo Skip Truck, Matchbox 1986. :)

2 pence is better than 1. ;)
Truck is nice,.mm woulda been a fun player in the right hands. :D

Unfortunately the metal axles on these things always tend to rust out, I thought it was a good example till the front wheels parted from the body. :|

Today we once again hit the old church site in hope of some good finds. Didn't manage any coins, though had a fantastic day on the SA dog tags, buttons and assorted relics.

The dog tags are dated 2 x 1911-1912, 1893-1894 and 1894-1895, hopefully they will clean up a bit more, yet to decide the best method. Picked up yet again another fob watch back cover and some innards, and needless to say, harmonic reeds were everywhere as usual.

Not knowing the exact extent of the site, we decided to spread out and cover a larger area to see where the finds started to peter out. There was also a lot of buried iron, so was a good spot for the Deus to unmask those good non-ferrous items. Some finds had been overturned in the soil and were near surface, whilst others were quite a depth down, sometimes over 10".

Sheryl from the forum did well on the dog tags, and also manage to pick up an old coin, hopefully she will post her finds later on. :)

Goldpick,
With your 4 dog tags and our 3 that makes 7 for the site. Thats pretty good. Doggie heaven!
Sheryl.

It was a hoot, the last two dog tags were within a foot of each other, not long after you left. Deb gave up by then feeling a bit sore, probably got sick of listening to the G2 howl away in pinpoint mode - it's pretty damned loud. :D

Thanks Heatho, I'd only found one dog tag previously in Adelaide, so four in the one session was a bit of a surprise - I was gunning for a coin all afternoon, but it wasn't to be.

Got a few other sites lined up with Sheryl, so hopefully some more good finds to come. :)

With all those finds I'm very surprised that no coins came out, the dogtags are cool too, amazing getting four in a session. Hopefully some nice coins will pop up at the next spot you try.

I did get four 1800's coins on the previous trip to the site, Sheryl got one today, though no silvers so far. They must have donated all their coinage to the church. :D

1/2 ounce scale weight looks good,.... finds comp material for sure. ;) :D
