This weekend is a double all-day hunt, on a location chosen by our detecting club. Pity I was the only that bothered to turn up today, they will be kicking themselves at what they missed out on, and all the more for me (cue Dr Evil laugh).
Turns out I didn't have to move far for most of the day, with 90% of my detecting time cleaning up coin targets underneath a jetty. There was plenty of rusted iron around, and evidence that the jetty had been detected previously - open holes. No to be deterred, I cranked up the reactivity on the Deus and worked my along the jetty picking suitable targets to investigate.
All up, 8 threepence, 4 sixpence, 3 shillings (two ramshead, one 1910), 2 hp's, and five pennies - all Roos I think. Only jewellery so far is a wee toe ring. Will give all the coins a good clean and date them when back home tomorrow. Sorry about the blurry last pic, crappy motel room lights.
I also gained an instant lead sinker collection, which should prove handy for my fishing, now I just need to buy some rods.
Two of the pennies that came out of the same hole were also accompanied by a couple of rusted nails (see pics). Once again, I never heard the nails on the Deus, only clear coin targets, the Deus proves its worth in these types of scenarios.
Later in the day I relocated to a boat ramp, and managed to pick up a few more silvers, so definitely worth having another look there tomorrow (where are the florins!).
I could spend weeks just wandering around this spot, it's very picturesque and a good place to wind down after a weeks work. Hopefully a few more pre-decs to come tomorrow (and more club members).
