Hey thats my name but i don't know a Megan :( The Florin and the sixpence look like they're in tiptop condition Heatho.

Hit the main stretch of Manly beach today between the volleyball courts and South Steyne hoping for a gold ring, plenty of goldies were found but no gold. When I was just about to leave a nice young couple came over (mid teens I'd say) asking if I could help find the young lady's wallet that one of her "friends" buried, I didn't ask why but that was the story. Anyway they had already dug a reasonably large area by hand looking for it to no avail. First few targets were junk and coins and then got a pretty loud sinal and dug down 20cm to reveal a ladies wallet. I was very happy to find it for her and needless to say she was very happy to get it back, win win situation. :D

$45 in coins, all seemed to be very recent drops, only 1 manky goldie. :)

Hi Heatho,
Lucky that young couple found the right bloke in the right spot, nice going on the wallet find and the goldies.
All being well mainly me, I'm off for a week's tecting around some old gold mining communities, should have some interesting potential, have a couple of grazier friends chasing up some other locations, looks like it will be a full-on week, might even have a bit of time to cast a fly or two to coax a trout into taking one.
Cheers, SinHof.

Sounds great, hope you get some of that heavy yellow stuff mate, looking forward to hearing how you go.

Worth it just for the victory medal. :)

Certainly was, first one I've found, was pretty amazed when it came out. This spot is weird, it's only 100m from one of my good honey holes where I've found heaps of silver and a gold ring and quite a few silver rings. It's a sportsfield too but it seems there is ver little there apart from junk. The thing that keeps me trying different areas there is I found a threepence near sunbaking there one time and tink there has to be more somewhere but it seems there isn't, now the victory medal gives me a bit more hope, though maybe I'm just wasting my time there.

Might be a honey hole within a honey hole. :D

I do like detecting those nooks and crannys around town where people tend not to bother detecting, they really can be rewarding at times.

Those HH's of mine GP, I've heard of people detecting them but never seen anyone there. I had a conversation with a bloke last week at the main HH who said he does Manly beach a lot but never thought these parks would have much, how wrong was he, lol. So glad I beat him to them, he looked a bit down when I told him I'd gridded nearly the entire fields and how much stuff I'd found, especially all the silvers. So I can't really believe that anyone has ever put any sort of proper time and effort into detecting them. They must have been pretty untouched.

I said that I'd hate to be the next poor bugger that comes along to detect them. :D

You are right though there are plenty of small nooks and crannys around the area I need to have a poke around in, some of the smaller spots I've done have yielded quite well.

Will have to check the spot where the medal came from a bit better, the finds a few and far apart there though.

Inspiring as always Heatho! Unfortunately my CTX has been gathering dust for a couple of months. Quite shameful really. Who would have thought studying law would take up all of my free (and not so free) time??

By the way, I wonder what happened to Steve and Megan? 36 years later are they still together? Still alive? Were they high school sweethearts? Did the crude engraving come out of a tech studies class?? It's a good find...and quite touching if you think about it too much...which I obviously have.

All study and no detecting would be difficult, hope you can get your CTX out soon.

Certainly makes you wonder about the people some of the finds we make belonged to.
