Not good Heatho, the cable on the Etrac pretty much does the same thing down at the coil, though yet to have any such issues - touch wood. At least I have plenty of spare coils should the stock one die, not a luxury you get on the CTX unfortunately.

I was just looking on another forum where a guy had his CTX screen die without warning, apparently it wasn't an isolated case either - big black splotches on the screen. Here's hoping they get you sorted asap. :|

Hey Goldwright, glad it helped you escape the mud. :) Just one of those things, the bloke who answered never mentioned if it was a common issue, though he didn't seem surprised about it, just agreed and said to send it in to swap over. He sounded busy, I'll call and ask next week sometime.

Goldpick, yeah I heard about the screen issue as well, I think Dejan had a screen die too or maybe his was another issue, anyway they seem to get a few issues, though mine has been fine, it even worked for 10 mins this morning and then I looked at the screen and it said "coil not detected". I gave it a wiggle and it started working again, though over the next few minutes it kept happening and I gave up with it and decided to call minelab. There are 4 other coils I know of that are available for it. I might get the coiltek 10x5 or the ML 6 inch at least just so I have a spare.

Swinging the aldi is nowhere near as joyful, came home with 10x more junk than usual today. :(

A smaller coil might actually prove to be handy in some junky areas, other than for just maintenance changeovers. The coiltek 5x10 is a bit more expensive, though still get some decent ground coverage over the round Minelab 6" coil.

Yeah I was thinking the same GP, a 6" coil is pretty tiny, even smaller than the SDC coil. I'd get the 10x5 if I get another coil, thinking about getting a spare 11" too now.

Think I'm getting CTX withdrawals already.

I have been thinking about gettin the coiltek as well, alot of my old sites up here have what we call tuff grass very thick stalks, base about 8 inches in diameter and hard to detect around. The 10x5 should find it way around those better and won't get hung up like the open coil. Yeah I don't know what I'd do if the CTX S%#ts it's self. Funny I have never had to send a Minelab back thats why I bought the CTX over the Deus touch wood.

Sounds like the 10x5 would be perfect for you GW. The closed coil would be perfect for grass like that mate, have you ever used the CTX for gold detecting?

Same here I've got 3 minelabs and the CTX is the first real problem I've had, well the detector still works fine, it's only the coil that is stuffed. Only other problem I've had is a pin working it's way loose in the armrest of my SDC, I lost one and ML sent me out a new one in no time. They do make good stuff and the customer support is excellent so I've heard. Just one of those things, nothing is immune from failure.

I was out gold detecting one day with my mate Shauno and his Dad and Shauno comes wandering over with a sad look on his face, the cable had torn out of his Koss headphones that came with the SDC, ML sent him a new set no worries. @#%t happens.

My GPX 5000 has always run flawlessly.

To be honest Heatho thats why I bought the CTX, to do the really hard worked areas by the old fellas and I am yet to find a piece of gold with it mind you its really hard to flog old areas when I have just got onto some new land so its really only done 20 or 30 hours on the gold fields. I had never found coins before other than a couple of half sovereigns in the gold fields back in the late 80's and got the 705 at the same time as the CTX for wife and kids to use then started to find coins with the 705 and CTX and that was only in June as this year. I prefer finding gold no doubt but really love the CTX as just down the road I can swing and find the good stuff. Just did a tally 450 grams of 92% silvers, 150 grams of 50% silvers 550 grams of copper (1c and 2c included) 2 gold rings 12 grams 9ct and around $850 in decimals. Not paying it's self off as fast as the 5000 did but it's doing okay.

Definitely doing OK mate, very well done. I'll have to tally up my silvers for the year, must be close to a kilo of sterling and 50% mixed. Well over a grand in $1 $2 coins in 6 months too. 2 gold rings this year, couple of nice rings with stones in them. Yep gotta love the CTX.

Just wish I was living in the goldfields though, you've been doing great on the gold mate, love seeing the nugs you're pulling out. :D

Cheers mate that was a good patch, kind of lucky being able to pay for a new toy with one nugget. You have smashed the silvers with tons of florins, out of all those silvers this year only 5 florins they seem to be quite rare in the ground up here. Still want to find a sovereign with the CTX though and that is my mission for early 2016 until it is a little cooler and I can return to the gold fields. Happy New Year

Time to cash in my coins from the last 6 months, I wouldn't have a clue how much is in the ice cream container but it's pretty heavy and only about 1 inch from being full. Hoping for over $1000 but we'll see. :)
