1874H penny, obverse 6 (Freeman 7), reverse G (Freeman H)

Yes a great find, "a lot of people have run a detector over them items",
the coin must have been on its edge,
as it is solid limestone rock 12 inches down
I guess the hard trash pinging area put them off.

Lovely coin, I've found a few 1870's pennies, and they seem to stand the test of time very well, usually with a very nice green patina. The small date Heaton version seems to be valued around the $50 US mark in very fine condition, or 15 in fine condition, only the very high grade ones fetch good dollars (MS60).

Though looking at some of the other "small date" 1874h coins around the net, your date seems even smaller again, with a greater gap between the date and rim. Might be worth getting it checked out if you think it is worth it.

Have you seen the prices for an 1882 penny minus the H mintmark, extraordinarily high prices, though extraordinarily rare!

Here is one that was only ever sent to Australia,...N O...W H E R E....E L S E.
.
At the beginning of the Great Recoinage of 1816 only silver coins were produced. The copper penny was only minted in three years, 18257, and the minting of copper coins in 1825 was only authorised on 14 November of that year. The entire mintage consignment of 1827 pennies was allocated for despatch to Australia for the prison camps (Botany Bay Penal Colony). The shipment of coins (they were held in wooden crates) became badly corroded by salt water with literally only a handful surviving undamaged. Most suffered from corrosion and verdigris. It is because of this that the 1827 copper penny is extremely rare in mint state with only 2 known worldwide despite nearly 1.5 million struck.
Here is the link.

   :D :D :D :D
So I can safely say we should all include this one on our bucket list. :p ;)

About all i can add is it was referred to as a "Young (Bun) Head" Queen, Britannia Penny. Unfortunately my Coin & Banknotes edition only covers the sovereigns, 1/2 sovereigns and pounds...the earliest listed Penny comes in at 1911.

Based on the link above (and dependent on the time of the list) worth between Au$14 - $60.

Perhaps some UK site research may help... sorry, no links to provide.

Cheers
Gypsy

Well I found out what the place is that I have been detecting.
It was an 1870s shearer quarters for the main station a few mile away
not an old house,
I also found another copper tube thingie, and the bottom of the pile is a squashed lamp
base and a draw knob.
As I see it they would not have had much a shearing gang, where I found the coin and the
kangaroo buckle was out the front, there probably fighting as they often were.
my thoughts on it.

Hi sandta

Well I went back to the old house from where most of these set of finds
come from.
Decided to move rock and bingo.
there is 1877 half penny there and 1942 half, (i know the old farmer who lost the 1942 lol)
but the could be door handle?
and the cup.
I did find a 1800 some think coin that was shot thru but it has fallen out of me pocket dam.

My wife has already claimed the door knob thingie, dam.
she was straight on to it, frike she wana all my stuff, over 20 years of marriage and I still dont learn.lol.

Some similar finds we have in common. I also have the same buckle from one of your other photos can't be bothered getting it lol. Either a door handle or bed head I reckon
