first time i have looked at this post, what a haul mate you are doing so well, i am still looking for my first pre dec. gives me hope, i think i need to find a park to hunt

Mate , I have friends from the shire that do better than I do

You need to do plenty of research and the coins will start popping up

Try Oatley park as I know that are pre decs there.

The place is huge and there were a few army camps based there in the 40's

Good luck

G'day All,

Another hunt this morning in the rain.

At least the ground was easy to dig.

$6 in spendables

19 and a quarter predecimals

1919 Peace Medal (seems to be the silver version as it has kept its colour after 95 years)

2 rings (one gold plated about 100 years old, the blue sapphire fell out and the other could be silver, no hallmark)

The usual copper bits that give you hope until you dig them up.

All in all it was a good day.

Covered a newer part of an old park (inner city)

Until next time!!!!

Thanks Sandta,

I was reading up on it and 1.5m were made and they were given out to school children in 1919.

Officials and returning vets were given silver ones and the children were given silver plated bronze ones

Based on the fact that it's not yellow or that it hasn't oxidised or has a green patina.

I think that this is the silver version

Could be wrong

Same park as where I found that jacks day badge.

Thanks guys.

Everything in this park starts at about 17cm.

I'd say 100 years of top soil plus the sandy soil and rain pushes heavier coins deeper.

The medal was around 20cm and rang at 12.36

I thought that it was a florin at first.

G'day All,

Early morning hunt at a new location.

$18 in goldies.

12 and a half predecimals.

One penny got pretty cut up that the CTX found it's hiding place :D

Only covered a 10x10 area.

Seems to be a good mixture, oldest was 1897.

Until next time :)

Thanks Sandta

After doing some more research, I think l that I found a location where there was a race track from the 1850's.
According to notes, they used to have 6000+ crowds.

Back in those days that was a lot

I guess we'll find out on the weekend.

Gday All,

Hit the race track this morning in the rain.

$21.40 in spendables

21 and a half predecimals of which 10 were silver.

Usual bits of copper.

A hilarious catholic pendant (no offense meant)

Great way to make up for last weeks poor performance.

Will definitely be going back for seconds.

Until next time.

Happy Easter Everyone
