Was it Rod Laver winning the australian open, and therefore completing the mens' singles grand slam, first achieved by Don Budge in 1938?

Edit: just saw that RJ got it after all. There goes a good potential question!

Thanks Bob.

I 1904 the barque Adolphe was lost on Stockton's Oyster bank. She can still be seen today. What did she strike that made her sink?

She hit the wreck of the colonist and then the rough seas forced her onto other wrecks known as the Oyster bank. She remains today on the wreck of the SS.Wendoree and SS.Lindus at the end of the break wall of the Port of Newcastle.

Gold truck, I recon Ramjet has forgotten about the thread. He is probably busy like the rest of us. I think your are correct with you answer. Just go ahead with you next question. Unless anyone else has an issue with it? Its been 5 days now!

Thanks Goldtruck,
I will take up the baton and continue with a new question. Have a great trip.

Here is a fairly easy question.

Arthur Paine was the first Australian victim to die from this disease.
He died in the early 1900's at RPA Hospital in Sydney.

There were several occurrences of this disease between 1900 and 1925 . Sydney was the hardest hit , but North Queensland, Melbourne , Adelaide and Freemantle also recorded deaths.

The last recorded confirmed death from this death from this disease, in a western country only occurred a few days ago.

What disease is it ?

cheers

Good question, they went emu hunting.

Following the long hot summer of 1932, wild emus in the Murchison district of Western Australia went on the rampage in search of food and water - much to the chagrin of local farmers who feared for their crops. In a bid to stop the advancing emus along the rabbit-proof fence farmers enlisted the help of the army. Armed with Lewis machine guns and 10,000 rounds, a party, led by Major Meredith of the Royal Australian Artillery, was sent to the Campion district where it was estimated 20,000 emus were causing damage. However, due to the abundance of food the emus were gathered in small groups, most of which were outnumbered by the 50 settlers who had turned out to meet Major Meredith and his men. A group of 40 emus was sighted and beaters were sent to herd them into firing range. At a distance of 1,000 metres the first burst of fire landed short, with the second killing about a dozen birds as they raced for the cover of trees.
