Ok a quickie. The CSIRO is a company known worldwide. What was it's previous name?

most of below stated in the post of pasted text by Outboard.

Originally, the Advisory Council of Science and Industry, 1916-1920
next the "Commonwealth Institute of Science and Industry", 1921-1926
then the 'Council for Scientific and Industrial Research' 1926- 1948 ( correct answer to the question as asked)
Now the "Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation".1949- current
now shortened to and referred to as CSIRO

sorry couldn't help myself. Interested to see what you have Jaros.

This is what i have from crapopaedia/; The Commonwealth Citrus Research Station was founded in 1924. In 1927 the Commonwealth Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) assumed control of the Station, changing its name to the Commonwealth Research Station, Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area.
Timeline

1924 - 1927 Commonwealth Citrus Research Station
1927 - 1939 Commonwealth Research Station, Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area
1939 - 1961 CSIRO Irrigation Research Station
1961 - 1967 CSIRO Irrigation Research Laboratory
1967 - 1982 CSIRO Division of Irrigation Research
1982 - 1987 CSIRO Centre for Irrigation Research
1987 - 1988 CSIRO Centre for Irrigation and Freshwater Research
1988 - 1997 CSIRO Division of Water Resources
1997 - CSIRO Land and Water

Waddaya think about them apples--a little bit confusing isn't it

Prior to the RFDS he established the AIM (Australian Inland Mission) a series of strategically positioned inland hospitals.
He also had a hand in establishing what he called the baby transmitter which eventually brought communication to the early pioneers and the school of the air to the children of the outback.

Read it all in John Flynn by Idriess

Quago Rainey 1823-1923

Quago Rainey, or John Quail, familiarly known
as 'Rabbity' Jack,' a native of Canary
Islands, who died at Drake the other
day, was an old miner. The oldest
hands about Drake declare he was at
least 100 years old, and he certainly
looked it. He had been in the Drake
and Pretty Gully districts for up
wards of 60 years. For many years he
has hold a small gold lease near Drake,
and occasionally fossicked for gold, but
had been receiving the old age pension
for some years. He had no relatives in
Australia. It was known to several
residents that 'Rabbity Jack' possess
an old pickle bottle full of sovereigns,
which he kept 'planted. ' ' The secret
of 'this plant .has gone with the old
chap, says Tenterfield 'Star.'
