A prospector was recovering from spear wounds in Far North Qld. and heard of geologist Norman Taylor's gold find in a sandy river bed. He and a few mates went up for a look thereby started a gold rush. It was 1873. What was the name of the place where the rush began and who did Norman Taylor work for?

Alice springs? It was actually a man in a water tank.
The following day police searched the area and found a man, 203 centimetres tall weighing an estimated 127-159 kg (or about two Oprah Winfreys) sitting naked by the roadside. He was then taken to the local mental hospital.

there were several "Yowie sightings" in 1987 including Alice springs NT, Lake Dulverton Tas, Cranbourne/Hallam Vic, the result of all of them was no one gave a rats backside knowing that the people sighting these things had over active imaginations and a lack of intelligent reasoning capabilities

It was Lola Montez, who scandalized the Melbourne establishment by performing an erotic "spider dance" without underwear. She earned further notoriety in Ballarat when, after reading a bad review in The Ballarat Times, she attacked the editor, Henry Seekamp with a whip.

Dr Duck good to see you back. give us a challenge mate.
PS survived the Op and have the scars to prove it. LOL ;)

Hmmm, that was good question, Cracka, and glad to hear that GT survived his op!

Not sure whether this will be a challenge, as I have been on the road today, and have not had much time for research or google proofing!

How about this:

What was the name of a drink that was popular on the southern goldfields, that consisted mainly of Rum, Opium, Chilli Powder and Metho?

The name was reflective of the effect that the drink would have on you!
