I research my questions thoroughly - perhaps you should have checked thoroughly before putting this up.

1. The City of Collingwood comprised Collingwood, Abbotsford and Clifton Hill - I am therefore correct. The City of Collingwood ceased to exist in the 1990s as indicated in my hints. The history of the three suburbs that made up Collingwood are as indicated See http://www.collingwoodhs.org.au/ This municipal district came into existence when the municipality of East Collingwood was proclaimed on 24 April 1855. At that time it included the areas which came to be known as Abbotsford and Collingwood, but within a few months the district had also annexed Clifton Hill, and the first election was held in October 1855. The name was later changed to Collingwood (as I also indicated in my hints.

GJ Coles first store, according to them, was in Smith St Collingwood - see: http://www.coles.com.au/about-coles/news/2014/01/20/coles-celebrates-100-years
and from Coles website GJ Coles and his brother James opened the first Coles Store on 9 April 1914, located on Smith Street in Collingwood, Victoria. Coles was Australias very first variety store, focused on providing Australian families great value with nothing over two shillings and supporting Australian suppliers.
Not the family store, the business GJ Coles as stated in my clues.

I used Noojee because i had a mate at the PMG training school who came from there. He looked like a tree lopper smoked like a tree lopper but luckily didn't smell as bad as one, I've heard. Rough as guts but when you got know him he was ok. From memory his name was Colin Tarr. Can't find him in google anywhere. I wonder what happened with him as he just didn't really fit the mold of a Technician.
Cheers :D

Jaros - :) . When I read it, the fire plotting courses all came back. For a while it was THE standard case study for various reasons. The terrain, the trees, the water, the town, the industry, the gullies etc, the weather all colluded to disaster, several times in fact. Fires that started near Mt Gambier SA (numerous times in fact) and jumped the border also gets studied .

Here goes. this is not from crapopedia, this is from the website of the book.

I am very big in dimensions. I involved a mutiny, a massive fire, threatened invasion, legal battles and to this day I cause great anger. My very existence ended up being debated in London everyone thought my existence was then clarified it was not. Before I came into existence I caused great concerns. A location in Sydney was to blame.

No mate.

The Sydney connection is not a red herring, but very relevant. There was an 'assumption' made about the location of a thing in Sydney that caused a lot of grief over the creation of the 'what am I'. An object between Sydney and Adelaide also played a part later on in trying to resolve some issues over me. Just so as you don't get side-tracked, it is not in Sydney or NSW BUT they do play a part.

No.

A further bit of info from another (very biased) site - it was used in a recent advertising campaign. A recent poll found that 88% of respondents wanted the problem fixed - this was very biased poll and was probably a bit of fun but none-the-less still provokes strong feelings amongst a section of the Australian community.

No - nothing to do with the ACT.

the dispute over me lasted over 60 years and as indicated above, segments of the community still argue about me. The 'winners' are grinners and laugh about it. The 'losers' are still sooking after all these years.

Not quite old boy

George James "G.J." Coles (18851977). Principal subject of this article. George purchased his father's shop in 1910 after having worked in Melbourne and the country for a few years. In 1914, after a trip to the United States of America and Britain, he opened another store in Collingwood, modelling it after the American and British methods of retailing.[7]

Game and set to loamer match to Gold Truck

Well 'old boy', myself and GJ Coles must be wrong. Can you let them know their website is wrong??

Coles website: http://www.coles.com.au/about-coles/centenary

1914 - 1929
The Coles story begins
On 9 April 1914 young GJ Coles opened the first Coles store in Smith St, Collingwood, Victoria. Immediately before the shop opened, he set down his thoughts about the task ahead. A proprietor has to have a happy home life, he wrote, he has to have a contented staff; he has to have a store he would be proud of; he has to earn the respect of his fellow men, and to do all this he must also operate a business that would be successful. This initial underpinning has provided the foundations for a company that is proud to still serve Aussie families and team members 100 years later.

Secondly, no dispute from you over the fact the City of Collingwood comprised the locations I mentioned.

game, set match Loamer,

bruised ego..........

anyway - back to the topic at hand.

Next hint - one of the blokes working on me hid in well during a scrub-fire and almost cooked alive in the boiling fat from the horse that was above him. The same fire just about ruined all the work being done.
