I already have a response from Sheppach, the drill supplier. They've supplied a reference number for the return to Aldi for a refund but I do need proof of purchase. That could be a bit of a problem

Unless you paid in cash, you could take a screenshot of your online bank account showing the transaction.

My wife keeps every receipt for 7 years as apart from the occasional need to return goods, you never know when the taxman is going to do an audit. I also photocopy receipts for power tools etc and keep them attached to the warranty card. I have found that receipts fade over the years but not photocopy's because of the different type of ink used. The only issue I have is remembering to empty the filing cabinet as a year passes and put them in the security document bin for disposal.

Hi. Moneybox. Can I weld a piece of flat plate onto my jackhammer pointed end bit to make it a spade bit, or, won't the weld hold on the bit? wiley.

Yes the weld will hold as long as you preheat the pointy end before welding however mild steel won't make a very good chisel. Stainless steel electrodes are very good for welding different steels but be aware that the flux from a SS weld will fly off and land somewhere you don't need it. Protect your eyes from the cooling flux.

our accountant years ago mackka advised us to keep the receipts for 15 years
as the mongrels, if they think they have found a discrepancy they will keep looking

We may have the receipt but finding it is going to be a battle. We don't shop very often but when we do we'll spend several hundred at the checkout so that drill will be mixed up with a lot of Aldi groceries and would most likely have just gone as drawings rather than tools. We just have to find the time to do some searching.

My brother and sister-inlaw turn up today from Queensland and we have appointments in Perth, Capel and Busselton over the next couple of weeks. During that time I have a Warden's Court hearing as well, I missed the the one last week although I did put in a written submission so hopefully I had it covered. I was one day late submitting my annual expenditure report on two leases and that triggered an immediate forfiture notice from the mines department.

Sometimes a smoking drill seems like nothing more than a distraction that might not be worth the time to sort it out. I have to meet with the family of a deceased tenant in Capel. The guy died without a will and the rental agent won't allow the family access to their car or personal effects left in two of our units. That leaves them paying rent for two units and rent of a skip bin until probate is sorted out, hardly fair play for a grieving family.

I should have mentioned it’s the barcode on the bottom of the receipt that matters with the larger businesses, you’ll notice when leaving Bunnings they scan your receipt then check your items on their handheld pda rather than looking at your receipt.

Best of luck with your rental, I hope the family are on good terms with each other, as will disputes can get messy. Without a will anyone that rubbed shoulder with this person can make a claim.
Even with a will they still come out of the woodwork when moneys involved.

Phil and I have been doing some heritage relics runs in the last couple of months which has taken in all corners of the city and then extended to distant outback areas. Boy, has it been hot!! Both in the quality of relics and the temperature 😊.

A couple of these trips resulted after my request for help with relics that might suit the Cue Heritage Museum. In Perth we met up with Coota who kindly donated a mercury retort, a cuppa and a lovely chat. Thanks, Mick. It’s really appreciated and the retort is now on display.:D

IMG_1525.JPGThen we caught up with some people who had previously visited the centre and told me they had some things if we were ever down their way. You have no idea how many times I have heard that from people who promptly forget all about it the moment they leave town. Anyway, I took their details expecting nothing to come of it…. again. But you can only try, can’t you? Surprisingly, they actually remembered me and were only too happy to clear items out of their shed and house. Phil and I had a great old-timer chat with them (well, Phil did 😊) and we came away with some lovely dolls, a Midas and Garrett detector with coils, the base of an iron and lamp amongst other things. Then we visited the Mandurah Giants before they were due to be moved elsewhere. It was all great fun.

Next was Reeds Prospecting to whom I had written the week before. Thanks to Aaron, Shandell and Mark who bent over backwards to help. They donated lots of vintage detectors and coils and I got ideas on how to display them from their own little museum. What a great little chat we all had again.😄

Here is the next instalment of our recent relic runs.

I have also recently received some vintage medical and ophthalmic items from a friend who worked for Doctors Without Borders and Fred Hollows. That includes an amputation saw (one of my favourite items 😊) and it seems he has some more vintage medical equipment for me. I can’t wait to see what that includes. A vintage medical display including apothecary/chemist bottles, green and blue poison bottles, old first aid kits etc is the area I’m really working on right now so what Harry has for me should be interesting. Hopefully, there is a colour-blindness test kit in there... I know some footy players who could use it!!

Not long ago, on the way back from who-knows-where, we called into a station to have a chat and see how our luck was running that day. As it turned out it was a fortuitous visit as the pastoralist was happy to chat (after his initial and hesitant misgivings, I must say, to see a stranger in a big purple bus drive up to his gate). In the end he gave us a huge crucible tongs, a wheel-less and somewhat battered metal kids’ car and a couple of other items. The thing I desperately wanted but he wouldn’t let go of though, was a complete camel water tank. It was lovely. But we did get a cream can but no rim, handles or lid, sadly. Phil spent a few hours making parts for it but not the lid. Maybe we'll pick one up some day. We did find some lead mail bag seals (although I'm not sure about the one with a cross on it) and I spotted a big goat along the way as well ;). It was all good fun.
