The only peridot that i cut with that colour looks the same . Maybe that's where it came from:) nice cut and stone You have there.I'll have to get up therefor some..sounds like tough work getting the stones , so you have to tumble all potential stones ? How d you decide ?do you have part of the stone showing to help indicate then tumble?

Nice stones there fossickeract - Chudley park is a place I've been meaning to call into, never gotten there yet. It's in the vicinity of Moonstone hill isn't it?

Interesting that you tumble them to get a better look into the rough - that's exactly what I'm doing with some small agate nodules right now. I've cut open a few that would have had better potential as cabbing material if only I had been able to see into them more clearly first, I would have cut them from a different direction.

Hi Kingsolomon,
You can just tumble the lot, some snip an edge with pliers but I used to drop them in a jar with sand and water out of the creek and couple hours "hand tumbling" around the camp fire did the job. Nothing except sharp edges show before tumbling. All the peridot seems to be the same shade of green from Chudley but did get some enstatite pieces one a very deep green cutter. Half the sharp edged finds turned out to be Black Spinel

Digging at Chudley. Yes its only 20min from moonstone hill

Peridot is a bit soft as far as stones go ,yeah .more of a display piece rather than for jewelery ,is this correct?

Peridot hardness 6.5 to 7 so close to citrine, amethyst, garnet etc quite okay fo dress rings pendants or earrings :)

Nice stone there Barney. I have a mate who is unimpressed with the appearence of smokey rough I have shown him, might show him that photo to demonstrate how good it can look facetted.

Not hard to find the stuff at Lowmead, just finding something that isn't a spiderweb of fine cracks is the problem. Same with the amethyst from there - it's every shade of purple from the palest tint to a deep royal purple. My favourite colour is a shade of purple that's almost pink. One of our members has faceted a number of pieces like that and they look great. Just have to be lucky to find one with a big enough area of clean crystal in it............

Glad you guys like it ... Here's another photo lefty you can show your mate at club how wrong he is about smokey! ..II still dosnt capture what the stones many moods are . Turned out a little better than expected this one . Its already sold and have an order for another! Hope I can keep this up!:)
