10/- would buy 5&1/2 gallons of petrol at the local servo where the bloke would
Pump the fuel clean the windows, check the oil and tyres.....
A lot of servos in Japan still do that. It seems Australia has been sold the " self serve " thing likes it's something positive

Hobbling together bits of old timber and lawn mower wheels into a billy cart with rope steering thinking its the best thing ever made while running it down the steepest hills you could find......

........and finding a dumped can of pink undercoat and 4" paintbrush and using the remaining half a tin to mark up a drag strip on the asphalt

It is amazing what half a dozen kids can paint, and attempt to spell, before the adults venture out on a Sunday morning.

Looked awesome and we got a dozen runs in before someone objected to the colour O:)

I remember 1966 as being the rip off year for us kids, when the guy at the shop only gave you 5c for your 6 pence. So you had to spend wisely or you got ripped off.

When I was young, I could purchase cheap Chinese digging tools from any detector store, in fact I propped up the economy for a while.

Actually, I could purchase them up until a month ago. Now they have been removed from store shelves because they are considered a dagger by the WA police and I understand they have threatened prosecution if they werent removed from sale.

Anyone out there in a position to assist me in reliving my youth ???
