cry's still waiting for a hose :) looks like Retirement Stone will be sucking the Grams out the Hills before me

Ha ha mate, Not yet! I m still waiting for pump. Ordered on 28th Jan. Each day I go in "It should be here tomorrow" I was a bit firmer today and was assured they spoke to Honda Melbourne and it has been posted. I wait with baited breath!

I can get a part from the UK in about 1 week but it takes 3 weeks from Melbourne, no wonder people are online shoppers.

Honda WX15 Pump is Go. Off to Mudgee Area tomorrow and will test out new Walbanker.

Oil change at 5 hours then every 10 I am advised. Such a small sump, that should be OK.

And the spray pressure, amazing, will only need less than half the pumping capacity I think?

Looking forward to it!

Hi wal, thanks so much for your videos and posts. Your info is helpfull, I am attempting to make one out of marine ply that I have
And have been trying to search for catwalk and cable tray ,
Not easy to find the catwalk but I can buy the cable tray for $46.
Will the unit being made out of ply be worth it or should I wait and save up for the aluminium
Regards
Mike

I want one :p

Hope you have packed two shovels!!. I trust that one of your shovel handles will break under the strain of gold filled alluvium. ;)

Personally I'd stick with the aluminium version, plywood weighs more and will probably degrade over time. I've got some cable tray here if you want it? I'll even throw in free shipping :)

Fine tuned the internals of my mini banker, she is a old 40kph sign(1-6 mm allu)no cat walk mesh ,but used an old security door doubled up silastic two together.not the best looking banker but should do the job ,maybe loads of saphs and some gold ,

What do you think?

Having tried 2 other materials to build sluices prior to using aluminium checker plate, I would DEFINITELY recommend using a sturdy sheet metal over any other options. (caveat: I have heard of some sturdy sluices being made from ABS and fibreglass, but for me the sheet metal is definitely easier to work with).

I got my aluminium as a donation (right time, right place). It was a long door from one of those tool boxes that tradies use. The box had been damaged in a crash I think, but the piece I got was not too badly bent. The toughest part was cutting off the support welds plus cutting out the pieces using an angle grinder (not ideal, but when you're on a shoestring budget like me, you improvise and do the best you can). I did pay a factory that makes those tool boxes for 4 custom bends @$5 each ($20 is not too much)

Cheers,
Dave E

PS. Come to think of it, maybe you could buy the sluice body (cut and bent to spec) from a place like that for a fairly decent price??

Hey Stone ... Looks great mate :)
The pump looks like a real beauty!

Mine is probably twice the weight for the same throughput.
(my choice was more economy rather than weight I guess)

G'day Mike, Ply is ok if you're not intending to carry it a long way mate. The catwalk is only needed if you have sapphires in the area you're banking. The standard sloped expanded is all you need if it's gold you're chasing, and is much easier to source. Try to get an expanded with a wall side of around 1cm.

Cheers Wal.

Hi Wall, just a quick question, if I'm going for just gold would you still recommend the bread crate section or standard sloped expanded all the way down?

Cheers,
Paul

Tested my pump this morning. the car got a sort wash as well , then I made a few changes :) after a few changes deeper cuts in pipe, a angle and some spacers . I have the correct water flow ? Wal about just under 1in deep maybe. I get good flow pump on idle Hardly hear pump . For a $185 pump I hope it lasts a while :)

Next weekend I'm off to get about 1/2 ton gold dirt :p
