Looking for some direction on layflat hose length.

I have bought 25 metres. Is it better to leave it at that length or cut and have 10 metre and 15 metre pieces that can be joined if needed.

I am thinking about weight (carrying 25m of hose) and loss of pump efficiency of a 25 metre hose.

Advantages of long hose that I can see is possibly setup in shade, right next to gold and quieter.

To boil it down is 25m a standard size.

Cheers

Craig

I'm not sure if it's already been discussed, but I'm noticing variations in the cable trays that people are using (some using vertical holes while others are using horizontal), does this matter in the scheme of things Wal?

I would use different lengths

I have ;

5m x 2
10m x 2
30m x 1

BUT . If I had my hose to cut again I would make 3m , 7m , 10m x2 , 30m

Fixed my legs up :8 tilt the right way :) All I need now are some hose parts I only got 1x 15 m layflat hose and looking like I'll get 4 m suction hose. a few camlock connections and I'll be ready for a test :p

Will be good to see it in action. I am ready to go bar my Honda WX15 pump which hopefully will turn up tomorrow. If it does Ill be off to Mudgee, Hargraves, Windeyer for a solid test run for a few days. Ill try and get some go pro of the action.

Cheers

Looking great mate, the crate cutout is getting close, but to be 100% efficient you need all "Ls" and rectangles with no squares left in the crate. The idea is constant changes in water direction and the squares hinder this "necessary principal".

Good luck with it mate and hope it rains soon to get some water into the streams......as this is also unfortunately another "necessary principal",

Cheers Wal.

Interesting side point emerging here ...

Have been using POOL CLEANING HOSE for main input and output connections. The pool hose has been enough for most sluicing so far (no kinky problems :p) although I haven't done a lot of sluicing yet -- always within 10m from the water (lengths are 2.5m input, plus 3.5m and 5m output).

Also have 100m of lay flat hose, which weighs a ton  (slight exaggeration). Was considering a long 50m piece, plus maybe 35m and 15m (haven't cut it up yet). I can see the need for longer portions when dealing with sluicing away from the water line (high on the drift at 'the ford' for example -- have only test panned there so far).

Cheers,
Dave E

That's a great idea.... a lot better than the ones i make.. :8

Cheers Wal.

Thanks mate.................but,

All my inspiration and motivation has come from your videos and forum posts.

My pump "should be in tomorrow" unquote. Which means I cant go to Mudgee area because I am back to work on Thursday and I wanted to have 2 solid days running the Walbanker.

Will take your clone up to Gloucester just to run some real gravel through it and play with setups. Not expecting any gold but with the volume that can be processed stranger things have happened.

Cheers

Craig

I dont know if this is a silly question but im open to silly answers...

Does it make any difference as to where you have the pump between the water and banker?

Eg. Shorter inlet and longer outlet (pump near water)

Or longer inlet and pump near banker?

Does it effect the load on the pump one way or other or its all the same?

Only difference would be if you like noise or not and how far you have to run before you can turn it off in a hurry?

Just thinking about what lengths to have as mentioned above a few posts..

Hi farmeroz
most I have seen work on 5m suction hose , long suction hose would be difficult to prime :)

Yeah -- I generally use only 2.5m for the suction/inlet hose -- but I will mix and match if need be.

PS ... farmeroz ... I've seen a number of setups with a tap/valve near the sluice to control water flow. I recall in at least one case, turning the tap would divert water through a spare outlet -- they could use it as waste water or as a hose for washing something without detaching from their HB.

Thanks Daveggs

I was thinkin of having a tap/valve near spray bar to divert water incase you need it off in a hurry or to dunk your head under
