Went looking for a gold sovereign pocket spill today 8)
I have been meaning to hike into this spot for some time as it has some pre-pre-decimal pedigree and ii figured it was a good spot to strip your cloths off and take a swim, particularly as the terrain puts a sweat on you......even in the middle of winter. 8.(
Indications of habitation can be subtle, but sometimes they stick out like a beacon. Here I found one of those pesky threaded bits of brass I find out on the goldfields. Also recovered something that definitively solves the mystery of where they come from.
Found twins, but no joy on the sovereign front. I did prove my strip-off theory and will need to revisit this spot on a lower tide.
Ended up with a mixed handful the other twin is soaking.
It looks promising fellas, the earliest on this maiden voyage was a 1910 threepence. One spot I thought would produce contained modern rubbish and coins go figure then again it is very accessible by boat.
By the look of the other silvers they may have a higher copper content dating them to the late 40s and 50s.
Thinking Ramjet and Rocket camped here when they were lads, the twins ended up being 46 and 47 florins.
Soccer practice was on again this evening; decided to cover a very trashy area so i put the NoX into gold and silver mode for a quick scan for potential.
No predecimals in this area as it has been filled but managed to cover petrol money and score a trifecta of 925 bling. :rainbow: also getting the hang of using a ring mandrel for returning my finds to original shape and will use this one to mount one of the stones I have cut or will custom size one to suit.
Decided to grab a couple of handfuls of dirt from around the ring for panning out to see if I can find the lost stone.....hopefully that will be another story
