The asparagus ended up with a few new little shoots telling me it was time to prepare the bed
1629729197_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-40-24.jpg

so I carefully removed the old tops
1629729261_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-40-44.jpg

you can see what was there.... I did end up eating that
1629729345_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-41-05.jpg

found two new baby plants just outside the bed... I'll see where there is a gap to shift them into once all the eating is over and done with for the season

I saved some seed from the female.... they tell you only to grow males, but I recon that just stops you growing fresh stuff by yourself
1629729659_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-42-08.jpg

got a barrow full of tops
1629729719_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-42-55.jpg

threw it out on some fresh mown grass (no seeds)
1629729795_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-43-09.jpg

first reduction..... then went over it once more with the mower
1629729873_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-43-16.jpg

added a good scoop of rooster booster to the bed
1629729942_screenshot_2021-08-23-17-43-44.jpg

then put the tops back on as mulch.... in nature the tops would end up going back into that soil over time... helping to build some deep humus I'd recon.

anyway.... jobs done now... just waiting for the feed.
I know self praise is no recommendation.... but... I did good
.. that's the best its ever looked :p

Made some Rosella jam a few months ago and gathered some seeds from old pods and also left others to the elements to just hopefully grow on there own .
Some have already got flower buds and are only tiny plants?

Also chucked an Avocado seed from the shop in a pot plant on the off chance it might germinate.

1630331342_screenshot_2021-08-30-13-30-42.jpg

1630331406_screenshot_2021-08-30-13-31-04.jpg

and even though I usually only end up with 1 or 2 macadamia nuts per flower spike.... I recon there may be a fair few nuts next crop just going by the flower spikes

Looking foreword to how this year pans out :p

that macadamia tree looks like it will pump out a lot...... one of the best nuts you can eat, pistachio and smoked almonds and nice fresh walnuts too. yummo.

have you got any dates ? i love fresh dates not that dried **** that comes in a bag from Iraq though.

Was an aussie bag of pitted dates.... I found one seed they missed.
I'll plant it and see how I go... who knows in anither 20 or so yrs I could have the dates for my chutney

As for the macadamia nuts.... I recon if I was to use mencozeb and copperoxychloride each spray of flowers would end up being all nuts.... then I'd have some to spare hey ! :p

Hopefully get some this year. Trees been in for a few years now.

If it doesn't get flowers out with it's first leaves this year... roll up a newspaper Bjay and give it a bit of a flogging (don't mind if a few leaves go south in the process) This will stress the plant and make it believe it needs to reproduce for its own sake.... and voila... fruit.

(If it doesn't work this time... repeat process again same time next year) :p

Nooo I think my poor trees stressed enough as it is. Got plenty of flowers but the poor thing tries to grow too early for our climate I think. Lots of flowers which most drop off later and plenty of pale washed out leaves. Gets better in the summer. Maybe it just needs a good stern talking to. :power: :Y:
