If I had the money I'd have shade house with a clear plastic roof over a big veggie garden.... no pests or weed seeds coming in on the breeze, and nothing dropping eggs in through the plastic top... good air flow... would be the ducks guts I recon. Bit of chook wire fencing to keep the fowls away.... and even if it was raining... well I could still be out there doing things :p

Chocolate pudding fruit
This is how they generally look while actively growing
1630664833_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-41-02.jpg

as some of them get closer towards ripening the bats do a scratch n sniff as they watch the crop and fight off intruder bats if need be
1630665010_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-41-20.jpg

some must get checked by other sneaky bats too (or they use a few to teach their young)
1630665099_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-41-33.jpg

they are wary of going too low down in case the dog is outside (good crop there)
1630665184_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-42-16.jpg

the bats are messy eaters and drop bits sometimes
1630665257_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-42-39.jpg

othertimes they must get a bit clumsy and bump a ripe one the wrong way as they land in the tree... and down it comes (they're very soft when ripe)
Splat....
1630665425_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-42-51.jpg

if they're ripe throughout the day and I miss them... the birds'll have a crack too
1630665521_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-43-11.jpg

I don't mind sharing if the one side's ok
1630665602_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-43-24.jpg

my half looks great
1630665651_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-43-36.jpg

seeds are big
1630665698_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-43-55.jpg

plenty of meat once the seeds are out
1630665753_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-44-10.jpg

and it's good all the way down to that thin skin
1630665841_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-44-39.jpg

and don't it taste great too (neater with a spoon)
1630665922_screenshot_2021-09-03-18-44-25.jpg

Anyway.... to beat the bats you can pick the big ones (or the bats tester fruits) and let them sit on your window sill until they ripen by themselves 3-5 days usually (if they were close enough to it anyway.

The tree itself is sentient(seems like it lol)... and will stagger its ripening with 1-3 fruits everyday over a 2-4 month period (roughly)

Just thought it may be good info for some of us :p

First big pick of snowpeas
Learnt while young to leave them just reach their best size to get the most food potential out of them.
colander full
1630755054_screenshot_2021-09-04-21-27-33.jpg

so I blanched them for 30 seconds
then topped and tailed them to remove the spine

1630755191_screenshot_2021-09-04-21-28-09.jpg

Can't wait to have Tommies and spring onions in-lettuce-cucumber in a separate pot-not into asparagus. Snow peas/beans. Bok Choi, Potatoes in a separate huge garden pot I have -pile it up as it grows. Yum.Oh Jalapeno's with the Tommies as well as Capsicums.
Enough for now.....tired already.

I like how you can get to all sides... yet it's a bigger bed.
how many of those are ya gunna fit in the patch ?

It about 20 yrs old now Deepseeker(the mulberry tree)gets cut back every few years to keep it manageable.
even though you could hardly tell
1631071033_screenshot_2021-09-08-13-11-24.jpg

Still need to stand on a chair to harvest the higher ones
1631071127_screenshot_2021-09-08-13-12-15.jpg

grows some decent leaves though
1631071180_screenshot_2021-09-08-13-10-30.jpg

I used to net it, but share with the birds now if they want a few... I also eat the almost there berries to, as the birds are waiting for them to release easy for a quick swallow.
With heavy watering this year just as the tree was awakening the fruits have swelled to bigger than normal size, this too may be hampering the birds ability to get them down.... thus leaving almost the entire harvest to us this year (been great), and I've saturated the ground 3 times all up so far since it woke up (I'm doing that with the mango, avocado, plum, passionfruit, and soon the macadamia tree too this year.... see how they all go at fruit holding capacity. :D

Got the safe spray(squirt bottle for insects inside the house) and added a little Morning Fresh dish washing liquid as a wetting agent
1631272672_screenshot_2021-09-10-20-35-14.jpg

And went outside in the garden with a torch and did all the paw paws (seeing as the white oil didn't seem to get rid of the little blue men) (blue lady beetle type bugs)
Anyway I hope this gives them curry up
1631272915_screenshot_2021-09-10-20-34-49.jpg

I'll get out in the morning and use the hose on all the pawpaws to wash it all away before the sun hits it too strongly (don't want to burn any of them at all)
We'll see how it goes :p

Had a call from my garden builder-could be weeks until the wood and hi tensile corrugated iron sheets become available--looks like Woollies this year again.

Mines all preloved wooden fencing material, and as long as there's no awards for best looking beds, and as long as it does the job and is free... then that is good enough for me.

Any fencer will probly let you cart away the old hardwood timber for free (cause it'll save them the dump fees)... coupla days denailing and a couple a days building... job done cheap too.
