Nooo I think my poor trees stressed enough as it is. Got plenty of flowers but the poor thing tries to grow too early for our climate I think. Lots of flowers which most drop off later and plenty of pale washed out leaves. Gets better in the summer. Maybe it just needs a good stern talking to. :power: :Y:

Mine had a flooding of overflowing pool water one year in the rain And the leaves told the story of how unimpressed the tree was.

Maybe you could ask Tom on the ABC radio on Friday morning.. he does the gardening question show then.

He'd know what would fix the leaf problem and thus the fruiting.

Me.. I'd say if the leaf veins were still green it needs nitrogen.... if the veins are yellowing too then I'd say give it potash. If it seems wet there most of the time I'd say give it an inch of nice topsoil each year (no more cause the surface roots need to rise with the soil)(so no shortcuts there) until the leaves are always green.... and I'd do it right out to the tree growth edge too

not in the garden but this ones about to flower.

Could probly go an inch and a half Bjay, 2 to 1 nice topsoil mixed with nice compost... it'll still reduce to one inch overtime as the compost breaks down.... maybe throw some tomatoe seeds in there too so you can tell when it needs water properly

That's lookin nice and healthy.... have to do a close-up once the flowers open.
is it a king orchid

I reakon Ill just dig it up next winter Silver and relocate it, only has to move a few metres and its much better drained.

What size block are you on Silver?

Not much of a block at all Jaros :p

Just an intense one :D

21 meters deep by 26 meters across
And that has a couple of little sheds and chookpen, clothesline and back patio in the open areas

So... probably about 350 squares as veggie garden and tree areas....+ bananas, lemon, cumquat, more passionfruit, coffee spread out in another garden with flowers etc.

So... pretty intensely grown in limited space

Well, I was looking at the yellow pawpaws and the fruit is undergoing a lot of damage

I had always suspected a beetle but was unable to catch them in the act

I might see one every now and again.... and the back of the mind always said guilty (by size association with the marks on the pawpaws

Anyway... I ended up cutting out all the yellow male pawpaws (just so they don't cross with my reds....the seeds  )
Anyway they were all in the wheelbarrow and this is what I see upon emptying it.

I've sprayed white oil on pawpaws before with no ill effect.... so in the soft afternoon light today all my girls are gunna get a liberal dousing... I hope that makes a positive difference . :D

I'm in the planning stages of building a 20x10 veggie plot and wonder how much soil do I have to bring in to have it a workable growth area for your normal backyard garden-sort of like how deep should the soil be above the weedmat placed on the bed??? :(
Also what type of soil would i need to supply the correct nutrients to the crops.

There are a lot of good YouTube channels that deal specifically with back yard gardening Jaros..
Best is to use the YouTube search function and type in back yard garden bed preparation.. :perfect:

I would rip everything out and avoid using weed mat. That's what i did with my areas. Then I got a vege soil mix from the local soil place but that was over 10 years ago.

As for the amount of soil it would be 10x20 by say 300mm or whatever it is depth. They will know how many meteres to deliver.

But be careful as there was a bad batch in Vic last year.

Jaros, my old garden was above ground, easier on the back, and was 600mm high made of sleepers, NOT treated. Be very careful of Organic Soil Mixes as most are just composted bark, ash and charcoal fragments and small bits of rotten branches etc. Go to a reputable landscape supplier and look at what they have before ordering it.
Cheers
Mackka.

It'll be easy to work out how much you'll need once your garden beds are built jaros, just make sure you can get your wheelbarrow down the inter rows easily (especially if you go with high beds). If you are doing low beds you can always use higher poles so you can raise them later (the sides of the beds) if you end up feeling the pinch of bending too much.
The deeper beds I made still have room to be made higher.... they had timber and leaves in the bottom to compost over time, then some top soil (full of seeds), then I put entire cane bales over that and planted into them once they'd broken down a little on the inside from wetting them up a fair bit.... all that ended up being incorperated into my soil after the first crop (potatoes in that one) to help fluff it up a bit. All my low beds just had topsoil mostly from home over time as projects needed dirt moved and they always did well with just a bit of chook poo added every now and then. Nowadays its all mulch it and feed it so it dont starve and there's less weeds to fight with.
make sure the sun passes the best way across your beds by laying them north south length ways. That way you'll give them more even sun. Don't make your beds too wide either as then you'll feel it as you bend to work or pick or weed them.
look a lot at how others set things out.... especially others that succeed well in their endeavours.
Utube is your friend... self sufficient me :perfect:
