Spotted a flower on the tumeric i planted about 18 months ago, have no idea when to harvest the bulbs and replant some though?

My niece took home a whole car full of plants when she left and would have taken more if she could have..

You could split the elk horns up and sell seperately if you wanted to Bunnings sell single ones for $30-$50 dollars each just a thought cheers Muk.

Got a problem with a clump of Blue Java though, previous bunches were fine but this has happened to the last 2 ? Any thoughts on what is causing the bunch to blacken and die?

The only two things I've heard of with bananas is bunchy top and banana beetle.... and maybe black spot could have been a banana thing , but I'm not sure

Thanks for your help silver , seems to be still a bit of a mystery though.
I have sent this photo to the ABC gardening radio program we have here on Saturday mornings as well, and was told it might be a lack of fertilizer . oop:
Not the case ,as all are treated the same, it is really annoying as these are the best tasting bananas ever. :drooling: Some call them 'ice cream' bananas cause that's what they taste like.
Will persist a bit longer with this clump and see what prevails, Cheers.

I recon it's not gunna be a cold weather problem for you lol.... so maybe something to do with intense fertilizer at the wrong time, or loss of roots to chewing grubs. Thats what I'm going to guess after reading that last link above.... as there were no photo's like that on the QLD site to identify it as as disease at all
So that only leaves something on site that's different to usual. So that's where I'd start my thinking on it all.

when we have the hands go like that we save the dish wash up water and pour it on the base of the plant ,it seems to fix it most times ,they must be lacking something in the soil

Tamarilloes or tree tomatoes if you prefer. Also I am attempting to keep alive a tropical pawpaw in a very non tropical climate through winter with the aid of a ultra low watt 12v dc thermistor heater rigged up to a surplus car battery. 99 percent chance of failure but will give it a try because if it works I could improve the idea. Bettery has lasted two weeks so far. Probably should mulch around it to keep the ground warm.
