Im not too sure about how everyone else saw this topic but to me i saw it as a healthy discussion on how members perseved this forum and what it ment to them, never did i think it would get "locked out"

Over moderation? Maybe?

I am still reasonably new to the forum. I only stumbled accross it after getting into the hobby. I was first introduced when my father in law showed my some nuggets he had found, and thats what started the research. I took the wife out to the cq gemfields for our honeymoon and found some nice cutters that i ended up getting cut and set into a pendent that she wears all the time :D i was hooked 8)
That was when i found this forum and decided to join and it wasnt until after i joined that i was witnessing all the old coin and relic finds by the members and seeing that is what got me more interested in learning my detector more and getting out there and having a swing and i thank the old and new heads of the forum for helping me find my first pre dec coins, a moment i will find hard to forget :)

Anyway i think Prospecting Australia a fitting name for the forum i think, and you'll probly find if you type any of the key words into google like "relic" "gold" "gems" "penny" "xp dues" "gpx" "super sluice" then one of the first hits will be this forum.

Each to there own. Everone is entitled to there opinion.
Like my tag says: "hope ya find what ya lookin for" whatever that might be :D
Happy hunting everyone.

It is hard at times because the changes you make as a mod impact a lot of people.
A lot of the time you can not let your emotions cloud a decision.
You have to make a decision based on circumstance pertaining to our set of rules and regs
yet not destroy the activity being discussed.
It can be a bloody tough call at times.

Yeah, Amanda Adkins. Seems like a nice lady. :D 8)

Yeah Rocket if you expanded your interests beyond just coin hunting you would see Amanda in a gem hunting tv series. :D

Interestingly enough called Prospectors. No gold to be seen.

Gotta get Rocket out for a gem hunt and a gold detect. Then he will realise that the current and original name covers what this whole forum is about.

Knowing the luck he sometimes gets he'll pull a 30ct A grade blue Sapphire. :)

New members joining the forum usually get here via google searches on specific subjects or gear, vs typing in the actual forum name. It's the member's contributions that get the forum out there in the community, reviewing gear, sharing experiences, offering up generous information, just to mention a few resources.

As mentiomed above, PA comes up near the top of the google search list for not only gold prospecting, but also coin/relic detecting, detecting in general, alluvial prospecting etc etc, hence why we get a lot of traffic locally and from abroad. There are many other similar worldwide forums, and their titles rarely reflect the actual content - I originally thought Findmall was an internet shopping site. :D

You do have the choice to frequent manufacturer based forums, though over moderation on our site is nothing compared what is seen on them. Generally ANY negative or critical comments on their products will promptly see the trash bin.

Pretty sure I initially ended up in this forum through a simple google search on a detector I was researching, otherwise I had no idea PA even existed prior to that.

I don't think changing the name will have little if any advantage over the present title, as they say l if it aint broke, don't fix it. :)

I like the name

Knitting Australia is taken, sort of, was given as a nickname to another forum here in Aus by some members of old Finders. I'm sure yo can guess which one it is, apt too ;) Need a name change, here? Too much time on some peoples hands me thinks.

Pretty sure I lucked onto this site by searching metal derecting Australia just looking for utube videos to enjoy what people were finding here, I had seen a lot of American money being dug up beforehand and wanted to see if people were finding anything here or if I was the only one (ha). ;) I registered on the 19th Dec 2013 and took 10 days before my first post ,... quite possibly took me 10 days to find my way back and get up the nerve to make that very first post ,.... but I'm very glad I did. (I still hope to make a few more yet). :D

Hey guys.....have another search, she's back on the singles list.....anyone for a plane ride north? :D
(just remember it's a pkge deal with 4 or 5 kids ;) )

Oh yeah, and to stay on topic,.... for once i am siding with the status quo, the name already says it all (encompassing) without injecting semantics into the situation (otherwise you will need to include all the 'other' thread titles as well). :p

But PA is a gold forum, we coin/relic guys are allowed in to keep it ticking over :p lol
And don't you forget it
To be honest the name is of no concern to me & I enjoy checking out the different hobbies within the hobby on here. Most diverse forum out there I reckon.
Love seeing the different finds - gems, coins, treasure etc. That ancient yellow metal just happens to be my favourite though :p

I think your right, As Aussie's we tend to multitask at everything we do so why change it here, whether we use a detector for prospecting or coin hunting they both inter-connect and overlap each other, the methods are the same, It's just the rewards that are different,

To me this place says Home and that is important when you've fell of the map, What makes this place Special is we talk and share our knowledge just like we would if we were all sitting around the same Camp fire, No other forum has that, Which is another reason I have pulled away from other forums except one and a Guitar forum,

We are all these things, that's what we do, the name says enough like the cover of a book it makes people want to look inside and if it does that then we "everyone" has done their job.

Well most folks tend to forget about the simple things in life and sometimes it's those simple things that mean the most, what could be better after a day swinging a coil than a bunch of Guys sitting around chewing the fat with a can or two and sharing the high lights of the day, Memories like that last a life time, Aye.

No offence meant but we don't need to add more labels here, Because when anyone new turns we can point them in the right direction and make em feel welcome at the same time, We tend to put labels on every thing nower days and by doing so we miss out on a lot of things, I would rather strike up a conversation by asking someone because hopefully others will add their 2c to it and the more opinions or views the better,

I play my Guitar for a few hours everyday, I searched for it for 36 years and a get a heck of a kick out of it because of what it is and how it sounds, There is none better, I know I have bought them All.

John.

Well..if your talk'n Gibson..Gretch...along those lines.. well it is what it is..nuf said! I was on a journey of my own..out of the blue.. i walked into a music store by the beach in north Kiama.. saw it..played it..bought it...cause its the one that was meant to be mine...only i had to find it...my Nemo moment :) I'ts a CORT DeLuxe Model Cutaway accuostic-electric.Its never far away from where i am at any given moment ;) and its got me through some of my darkest days..surely!..they don't come better than that  ..in my book. :p cheers

That's what is good about forums, people do so many other things besides Detecting, when you look at the gear we buy for our weeks away and our other hobby's it's easy to see where the money Goes, My Gretsch has all those classic tones and it is quite unique I know of about 5 or 6 over here, I might get a 1959 reissue Bassman Amp Next.

Brain surgery screwed my guitar playing abilities, I was good, damn good, it was my chosen profession, after the surgery I was paralysed down 1 side, I can do almost anything I want still as 95% of my movemment and strength came back but it left my strumming and picking hand uncoordinated. People say I should keep trying but.... from where I was to how I'd play now would be a joke to me, so it's best forgotten. Still have my Les Paul but she doesn't get out of her guitar case much these days.

I could play anything almost, from Iron Maiden and Metallica to the real heavy stuff like Anthrax and Slayer. Was starting to learn a bit of Classical and Flamenco also. Anyway I got into recording mixing and mastering music after that.

Will be starting up mixing and mastering again soon, had a beer last night with a good mate and artist I've done albums for in the past and we're going to do some new stuff very soon. :)

Sorry to hear that Heatho, The reason I came over hear was because my brother came here in 85 and in 94 he got a Brain Tumour, he had it removed but it grew back in 6 months,

You should take it back up again because within 6 months you could be playing again, its just like any physio after a while the body will catch up and get back on track again, it will drive you nuts at first but you can beat it mate,

I play up to 2 to 4 hours most days, Learning to play Scotty Moore's early Sun recordings with Elvis and Eddie Cochran's music along with playing the lead parts George Harrison did on the Carl Perkins Rockabilly Sessions, Having the right Guitar helps but I can get their sound off to a "T"

john

Cheers John, but nah, will stick with producttion side of things these days, would love to play again but I'm a realist. :) I used play about 4 hours a day too, it's about the right amount to get very good. Sorry to hear about your bro too.

Beer aleays makes music sound, well, better I suppose ,.... more beer n I'll listen ,.... lots more !
