Hey ryan i wasn't going to say anything but since you asked i would suggest you mix up your matts a bit. All of your matt is drop riffle you need some upwards action. Throw a scrubber or riverhog in mate. Ur basically slows flow down untill it packs up GH works best by creating slow then fast then slow etc. Just my two bob. Spend over $3000 testing matts...

Thanks im glad you did say something its better to ask a question, than do nothing.
and now you have said that i realize your spot on,its good to have an extra set of eyes.
I set 7 mats in, and from the top down it goes

I did have some of the others in my old setup, but it decided to grow wings and fly out the trailer one day on the way home never to be seen again,FAAARK it,lol.

might have to get some more with i higher profile. I was thinking about putting some riffles or something in,any ideas??

I have designed a set of riffles that do work very, very well that I drop in place of my "Bread Crate"in my Banker.
I will not give away on how I designed them on here as a bit of thought went into it based on the obvious above that I stated.
.
Heck, It is not rocket science to work it all out.
Having two types of setup gives me the scope on what I do based upon a simple design that any one can build.

.
I base my designs on just going out and having fun but also putting into a little bit of brain and eye power to achieve the best possible result I can in a small compact unit with out having to take a mortgage out to get there or loose any sleep over it.
.
Every one has their own setup that they are happy about but I myself would rather spend my down time coming up with clearer objectives, than to build a 007 banker that wins over all hands down.
.
If you really, really wanted to go all out, Multiply a Walbankers measurements by 2.5 then drive it all with a 3 Inch pump.
Defeats the purpose to me.
Somehow.

Why not let everyone know how you set up your riffles?isnt that what this tread is about, Its a forum about prospecting, its not as if some one is digging in you favorite goldle hole, Wals highbanker is a beast and ppl love it.
I suppose im just i little idealistic and don't mind helping others in our hobby, for the grater good, each to there own.

I understand that you do it for fun, as im not trying to make a living out of this,i do it for the fun and getting outdoor ect.
But I am trying to make a better and better (007) high-banker,and when and if i do i wont mind sharing any of it with others.
Cheers

Ryan1981,
I do not want to come over as being an idiot but a simple few hydraulic rules and water flow plus a few beers to clear the mind does in the end "pay" off.
Yes, I know that this forum is based upon sharing and giving but some of us do like to keep a few things to our selves for as long as possible.
I am not claiming to have invented a secret riffle system as we us experimenters do like to at least hold a few things back. Nor have I reinvented the wheel.
.
In time I will let it known what I have done mate. It is quite simple really all based on what I have said. Simple observation. That's all.
.
I have had a few more idea's to try shortly but I do not wish to detract too much on what I have.
.
A portable, well designed simple device that until the powers that be try to wreck for me, Will give me years of pure enjoyment. (Plus some Gold if I am lucky )
.
I will give you some thing to think of,
.
My previous posts back a bit show H pattern spray bars,
Down wards laminar water flow,
Wave action,
Angled at a specific way with the flow,
Basic hydraulic agitation,
Self clearing (to a point)
Uses small hydraulic pressure to keep the heavies agitated, (How that happens is so simple but I do not wish to tell )
Has a nugget trap, (If any get that far)
And has expanded mesh on the last few riffles and the lot has matting under it.
All contained in a Wal - Banker.
.
I am sort of thinking of adding another length to the Banker but at this stage can not see a good reason. If I get into an area that I frequent and find the need, I will.
.
Cheers

Hey wal
What is the degrees of fall you use on your gold n gems set ups
Yo stop blockages

When I'm using the "Gem" oriented setups I run a slightly shallower angle of around 10 degrees, with slightly more water pressure than the Gold Version. For Gold only I run around 15 degrees and tune the banker by water flow and not angle.

The Gem version uses vertical sided mesh, and the reason for this is I want to slow and trap the high SG stones like Spinel, Sapphires, Zircons, Garnets, and "YES"... Iron stones, ...( if you blow iron stones out the back, being high SG, you will blow all the gems out the back with them).

This version as I have on many occasions "stressed" requires sidewards shaking of the sluice to settle the heavies to the bottom of the expanded....( same as you would do if "sieving" for sapphires). Please take note this set up is "designed" to become "Blocked", as some put it. It's based on the "Pulsating Jigs" in the Sapphire industry. ;)

The Gemstone hunters using sieves would know the sideways shaking of the sieves centers all the heavies into the bottom middle of the sieve. My Gem banker does this on the same principal, with the added advantage of washing the lighter gravels over the top.

The Gem version retains a lot of material with the vertical sided mesh, but this is the "whole idea" behind the principal. ( to retain as many of the heavies as possible)...and not to clear the sluice for easy cleanup. The Gold component will slide down the slick plate and remain under the first lot of "Raised" expanded, and even when the sluice gets chocked with heavies... (as it is designed to do), the gold cannot rise above the heavies as it remains buried at the bottom.

If you want to chase mainly gold with a minimum of heavies in your clean up use a "Displacement Only" principal in your riffle system.... ;) If you want a combination set up, where you want to add Gemstones to the equation, use your "experimenting" with various riffle designs, but expect to withhold a far greater amount of heavies to become successful with it....as otherwise you would be better off with a set of sieves and a gold pan.

No one High banker will do everything with a single set up. :( Tune your own banker to your specific region and wash type, be convinced in your own mind that your catching better than 95% of what your looking for,.... be happy about enjoying that 95%,... and not worry or stress about the 5% you leave for your fellow prospector. ;)

Happy High banking guys.

Wal.
