More rain over night but nothing like it was yesterday. Managed to get 1 of the cars started last night and moved it to high ground. Got a 2nd one started today. Seats and carpet all soaked and ash trays full of water. Ive just been cutting up downed trees and putting soggy rubbish in the trailer. A couple of pics I took when I went out for supplies.

Never seen so many trees uprooted, had to drive to a hospital appointment today. So many traffic lights still out, but much less traffic. Our power just came back on after loosing it for 16 hours, but counting ourselves very lucky.

Sorry to hear about the flooding at your place, RJ, but at least the house is on stilts and you were able to get the cars going.

Hope the insurance comes to the party.

In Goulburn we had some useful rain, after a pretty dry spell, but it was nowhere near what Sydney and the Hunter got.

The 1986 and 1988 floods in Sydney were worse, and were calculated to be 20 year floods. Not to mention the even bigger 1956 Maitland flood (much of SW Sydney was also flooded then as well). There was a flood in 1873 that was far bigger. It was bigger than the 100 year flood. The mind boggles at the damage that would be done if we had a repeat of those monster floods with today's population and building density.

your house on stilts is very much the same as pancho,s place across the road from the hinton pub... our old mate used to watch the stuff floting down the river and if it was not running too fast use his runabout to retrieve things that he spied floating by... dozens of pumkins, half full drums, truck wheels, you name it.. :)

Its amazing how much we take for granted ... You certainly realise what you dont have when you dont have it
It doesnt take me long to get dead **** bored but am grateful to have a roof over me and to be out of the elements
Power went off on monday , fortunately i have little gas cooker( one of those potential bomb ones) can make coffee , have a few frozen containers of stew , curry , soup meals in marge containers in freezer ( which is now slowly defrosting) , no hot water ( no shower again tonight ... Theres only so much a can of B-O basher can cover up) , no tv , so EARLY bed(been getting some much needed beauty sleep... I almost look like Jen Hawkins now :D ... )
I do have this ipad (i charged it and my phone at work today, but the charge doesnt last very long) so luckily can check out the latest goss on here for a while. Then back to reality... BORING

It's raining again here. Moved the cars to higher ground. About 5 inches of water in the yard and the shed is slowly filling up again. 8.(

In the bottom of this pic is where the car got washed away today. Our house is above the railway line, just out of the pic to the right.

you should be able to work out how high the water in your yard may get by finding out the water level in the river now and the water level the river is expected to peak at... the differance in height is how much more height of water in your yard... they say you have had the most rain in your area in 118 years.. this should be a test for the river water levies they have built along the hunter... :/

Rocket I had the chain saw on the trees yesterday. Some of it is on the fence but not damaged too much.
Kawman the rive has peaked and is dropping. We live in a low spot apparently, More water in our yard than most in this part of town. I huge storm water drain at the end of the street and it's just not flowing. The 2nd last pic is the High school across the road.

crazy world we live in..it is ok to have large trees everywhere that fall on houses, cars and kill people.. but we are not allowed to cut them down.. not to mention the fire hazard.. In my book anything higher than the house gutters meets my chainsaw... :)
