After all the research and Googling, and a big drive, Rockhound and I arrived at our plan A for the day to have our hopes dashed by the scourge that is giant Rat's tail grass!
We had come too far to leave, so after gaining permission to take a look at the old cricket field, we waded in to brave the snakes and ticks.

I'm a firm believer in positive thinking, and making my way to the least grassed in area, managed 2 half penny and the 1914 Shilling. This spot will need further attention next time we have a 2 year drought.

So half an hour later, now what? Belated plan B is again dragged out and after another hours driving, we start swinging with renewed vigour. After finding the usual BB's, spendies and a few nice pre's, Rockhound goes and finds something that in my eyes would be rarer than a Sovereign coin spill

I'm just glad it's not Sunday, because no one would believe what he found on April fools day ]:D

My finds for the day.

Hey Capa, yeah mate, we only ever go out in shorts and thongs. Plenty of snakes about but we give them plenty of warning we are there and they leave us alone :D

I couldn't let Rockhound have ALL the fun. I started out strong with first coin at both sites being silver, but that Florin was not going to be beat for best find of the day. This weeks research turned up the sports field tuned orchard in an unlikely spot. Saved another hidden one for a rainy day.

Dont worry bout that awesome florin too much mate...
just think about the sovereign your gonna find :p ;)
Oh, don't you worry Sandta, they are always on my mind when I'm hunting these old spots 8)

Got out for a few small hunts whilst visiting my Dad.Almost made fuel money and got a few pre-decs to keep it interesting. Had to stop at an old spot on the way home to pick up a silver though. The grass was a little out of control, but a small mowed section held the thrip and 26 half penny.

Got out and about today and hit a few different spots, I do love my old cricket fields.
First stop

Got a few, but think it has been done before me.

Second spot might be worth a look in wintertime when the grass has died off.Thought I had a photo, but seems not.
The 2 coins were Brits, but a LOT of molten metal about makes things hard

Third spot was my favourite, gotta love the "Flogged out" halls, no photo to avoid competition :D

1524899748_20180428_8.jpg
