Thanks GP. Being such a newby I am digging every target. The At Pro gives a quieter signal the deeper the target in Pro mode. Makes it hard to pick them up. As I write this I am thinking in Standard mode it gives the same volume no matter the depth. Hmmm. Guess I'll try standard mode next time, or switch between the 2. There ya go, I just learnt something. ;) The deep coins, either goldies or 20 and 50 cents ring up low numbers around 40 which would be foil etc normally.

I do like that distiction between between shallow/deep targets on the Deus, but usually only with on-land detecting. On the beach I run the Etrac volume gain up pretty high to boost the audio from those deeper coins, it won't improve the target ID, but at least you won't miss prospective targets.

I was just looking through some info on the effect of salt on coin TID's (or VDI's) when using a VLF, and this particular example had a US dime lying on the surface on wet sand reading 91, four inches deep it read in the 70's, and seven inches down it read in the low 30's. So you can see that TID's become pretty useless on anything at depth in high salinity ground, and I could imagine going by this that a gold ring reading in the 50's could possibly head well into the iron range. Makes me wonder what targets I have missed in the past going off that info. :|

I will still do the beach as I enjoy the pace and scenery and its less than 5min away (and you just never know ;) ), I need to also give general mode a real work out, but from what i've seen iron is iron and fish hooks are fish hooks    and my beaches are deserts and it aint through a lack of trying . Give me a virgin turf ground anyday I might not have found gold yet but i get plenty of spendable s and enough old old old stuff to keep me interested on the turf    , bloody seaweeds :p

Hmmm come down and detect around the volley ball courts on Manly beach in summer, lol. Blokes regularly walking into trees and tripping over stuff walking past there. :D

Bahahaha. once again I resemble that remark. Dark sunnies and a running cam are the go. ;)

WTF did you do, when are you dinosaurs gonna realize your not in your 20's, or 30's for that matter, far out hope your ok, I'm only 42 but i know my limits and they are less than the mind says so, my mother in-law 62 still thinks shes god knows how young, got up a ladder 8mnths ago had a stack ended up with 2 broken arms and an absolutely shattered pelvis, anyone above 50 should take a real good look in the mirror because the mind say's you can but the body doesn't agree when it comes to the crunch  get it crunch
