Good beach score ;) , you saying that by not running any DISC you are getting deeper?, I've been running the CORE on 40 since being persuaded too and none of what i've been finding since then has not been really deep, coincidence or not?

Edit: would like to see the silver ring cleaned up ;) ;)

I don't know about deeper but the numbers I usually rely on in parks etc meant nothing on the beach. lower tone targets would have been missed if I had any iron discrimination on. Not much trash so may as well hear everything that you swing over. I am a newby to beach detecting so much to learn.

Nice mate, yeah I know what you mean things are a lot different on the sand.

Great hunt Rod, bet those rings made your heart skip a bit when first unearthed! Everyone is having a cracker of a start to the year, hopefully I can join the ranks tomorrow with some luck.

There is the possibility of missing some gold rings if you discriminate out 5c coins, so as you mention, better off running open screen with just a touch or iron discrim - leave no stone unturned so to speak. ;)

Too much conventional discrimination or signal "filtering" will reduce the depth capability of a vlf, that is apparent on my Deus and most other vlf's I have used. I only run minimal conventional iron discrim at 10 or under, and use tone based discrimination for everything else (I can choose 2-5 tones or fulltones).

The other way to go is run no discrimination, and turn down the iron audio for ferrous targets if you have the option available to you. This should give you max depth capability, though will also dependant on various other settings. Sorry for hijack Rod. ;)

Did you work the waters edge or dry sand? and where were most of the targets? I've done the beach a few times now but all my finds have been in the dry never got a squeak out of the wet, I'm tossing up whether to go down the beach at low tide but there are tonnes of tourists here ATM so wouldn't even get a parking space

Nice way to recon beach before going http://www.coastalwatch.com/

Did both dry and wet sand areas. Most of the coins and silver ring were in a patch maybe 5 or 6 metres across. Lowest point on the beach and with the tide almost low the water covered my ankles even few minutes as a bigger wave came in. I like how objects of a similar weight seem to end up together. Sandta covered a lot more ground than me. He moves and swings pretty fast but seems to miss nothing.

Definitely need a scoop with handle when working in the water, bit cautious to take the Nokta that close she isn't water proof :(

There's only one way to find out. Do some burying. Have a play. That way you can draw your own conclusions. You gotta play with your settings. As I found out if I switch from am over to discrimination and drop disc to 0 I can push an inch or so more than am, but middle depths I get less gain. I'll hunt an area and try a few different methods like positive and negative gb depending on mineralization and you can pull a signal or threshold drop further than neutral numbers.
It's easy to fall into the trap of relying on manuals and tuition from others but once you've grasped the basics it's time to experiment. I've learnt this from the guys with pi gold machines, it's not all beep dig, this is why the detecting companies employ expert engineers to guide development to push the limits and give us machines with a massive array of options to use.

That's one of the reasons I got the At Pro. I mostly kept it in my right hand and used the scoop with my left. Much quicker than digging through gravel n hard soil. :D
If I wasn't sunburnt id be back today.

my nokta will be going wading soon, just keep the water below the handgrip, and put on the control box cover. It should do great in beach mode.

Personally i think COND mode will let you down with its presets, i'm going to do some testing at the beach and bury some targets with string attached  as im not convinced COND is best, reckon DI2 with manual settings will get more but only time will tell

If it wasnt so far away , i would have been back too :D

Hit the beaches this arvo. First beach was about 1 1/2 hours for $2 and a ring. It's very heavy and I thought it was silver but I can see no hallmarks so probably junk. I did spend half an hour looking for a young lady's keys. After covering the area she said she was sitting and expanding in all directions I told her I can tell her where they are NOT. Disappointed I couldn't find them.

Moved to another beach but I was a bit late as the tide had turned and by the time I found the coin patch the waves were pushing me up the beach.
I got more today in the dry sand, recent drops. People really are pigs. As well as the trash I dug I filled my pouch with discarded rubbish from today's beach goers.

I was even happy to be digging pull tabs and bobby pins in the surf zone as I hope this means I'm not missing much.
Got a Singapore $1 which is a first for me.
