Time for a bit of a protest amongst the diggers and locals, and throw in a BBQ to make the day nicer, it might get the property owners/locals and digger acquainted with one another. You gotta have access to the place, its on my bucket list of places to do..
Just a thought

Had to laugh at my last post
"Safety Raining"
I meant Safety Railing.
True Bazza, It does look high enough to drive under. It just means that you would have to be quicker when the river is coming up.
I will carry a set of bolt cutters there in future. :) :)
And offer to repair the cut cable after the event.

Today's Goulburn Post has an update re progress on the bridge. Note that it will be 5 meters above the river, so there should be plenty of access to the downstream side. The story has a couple of pics, which are interesting.

WORK is steadily progressing on the new bridge over the Shoalhaven River at Oallen Ford.

Once the accompanying roadworks are completed, the new bridge looks set to be opening by the end of August.

Goulburn Mulwaree Operations Director Matt ORourke said all of the foundation concrete was now in place.

The columns to support the bridge deck are almost complete and the contractor has mobilised a crane to begin erecting the bridge deck, Mr ORourke said.

The bridge deck structure is a combination of precast concrete units (planks) plus a 120m long in-situ reinforced concrete deck. The planks are all expected to be in place by late June 2015."

He said the the first half of the bridge deck will be poured late June 2015 and the second half early July 2015, with guardrail to be constructed along the new bridge at the completion of the bridge deck.

Mr ORourke said the bridge construction had been stalled by about a month due to rain.

Due to significant rain throughout April the project has been delayed due to site inundation from the Shoalhaven River, Mr ORourke said.

Mr ORourke said the Oallen Ford Road bridge approaches would commence when the bridge construction was nearing completion.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council will complete the new bridge approaches in August 2015. This will require road closure to incorporate the new bridge alignment into the existing road alignment. At this stage the new bridge should be open to traffic by the end of August 2015, he said.

Some road closures will be required later on to integrate the new bridge approaches into the existing road - meanwhile, the existing road is open for traffic.

I am really happy with the progress - it is going well. It has been a challenging job with the rain and river rises as well as construction occurring in winter and also working at heights. It has required a bit more thought about things than most other projects.

He said the project was currently progressing according to budget.

The total cost of the new bridge would be around $3 million and that the project was largely funded ($2.2m) by the Roads and Maritime Services.Council will fund the bridge approaches.

When it is complete, the bridge will be five metres above the Shoalhaven River and 120m in length. It will allow passage up to a one in 20-year flood.

Hi all
I was down @ O,allan crossing not so long ago, bridge construction is well under way. Forget about asking for free dirt, get on the northern side and dig, good results from the left over dirt. P.S saw a couple of the workers with there own buckets with material from the work site

It would be spoil from quite deep diggings I would think as the machines would have dug v deep for the footings and such.

Wouldn't have seen the light of day for a long time.

Be worth a look!

proposed closure

Not happy at all was planning a day trip out there. Oooooooh so angry. 3/4 of Kellyville bridge sky rail is complete in 6 months but yet a simple river crossing takes years. Someone needs to take their thumb out of their bum !!!!!

Hi guys,
Anyone driven through the Ford or been for a dig lately. I was thinking of heading out on Sunday and was wondering what access was available, with regards to bridge works etc. I thought I read somewhere that they had sealed of access to the main area below the bridge?
Any info would be appreciated
Cheers
Mark

Mark,

I was out there last Sunday - the area on the eastern side of the bridge is closed due to the construction site and the river was running pretty high. I'd be keen for another trip out there, but not likely to be this weekend unfortunately. Maybe somebody else knows another spot that's accessible a bit away from the bridge......

Cheers,
John

Heading up the hill from the river towards Neriga there should be tracks on the left that will take you half a km or so further down the river. Two wheel drive is fine except the last 50m in some spots.
