When you do the citric acid and foil clean you don't need to rub the coin, just wrap it in foil after a 5 minute soak and hold the coil between thumb and index finger tightly for a couple of minutes. I now use this method for anything that's sterling silver and hard to clean, it works very well.
Is this the same as what used to be used for silver cutlery as well? Think it was an alloy plate you sat everything on and added a solution. I'm still yet to try out a CAB! All my coins and finds are still straight-out-the-hole condition, I'm a bit scared to damage anything
Hit a park on the way home from work today, quick hunt to prove it was worth trying again. RJ, and I hit it earlier this year, and we only found a few pre decs, so we moved-on. I tried the end that we didnt.....its full of old metal, and a few coins it seems!
Sanfrancisco mint....shame the soil was harsh on it. Or was it the bi carb, or Citric acid...never had one with so little wear, so pitted after cleaning.
This arvo's hunt....1830 park, now a dog park.....few old coins, bucket lister, verbal abuse, attempted intimidation, by a member of the public, police called, and cool drone footage.
I wont say much more, but I called the police, they had no issue with what we were doing, and upset person left as soon as I started dialing 000. Good story to tell at the next meet.
Thinking 1830s farthing, my first farthing, and maybe oldest coin?
We both kept our cool, very happy with how we conducted ourselves. My kangaroo penny has to be 1939, but gee it looks wrong, that nine on the end looks like zero.
