Nice one HTY you've opened up the perpetual can of worms here

bugger I always some how manage to get the forum chatting over things like this

but ill say one thing my trusty old Garrett has never let me down yes Its a vlf detector yes it might not go as far down as a minelab and struggle with it on hot ground and people may think ifts a peace of sh t but I have had no problems with my Garrett no battery proplems no actual detector problems very minor design faults if any water proof to 10m unlike most minelabs that you pay 5k for a stick you can't get wet and if you do its worth 1cent and what's more all gold I've found so far has been with a Garrett not a minelab this maybe to do with my ears more tuned to a Garrett im not sure but some may think im attacking them im just stating my experiences with their detectors I don't hate them I just dislike that you have to over pay for some things like 10k for their supposed best metal detector in the world I could buy 8 garrets for that price and give 1 each to my mates if I wanted to or even a nice boat.

so that is my 2 cents worth

I guess if you wish to insult and get personal with someone on a detecting forum, all you have to do is attack their brand of detector. I just cannot understand why those attacks are made against only one detector manufacturer in main. In my years I`ve used most brands, got gold with all of them. The one that I remember the most fondly(cos it got heaps) was the Garret A2B next on my fond list was the Whites GM2. Then ML took off the rest is history.

I`m not going to attack other brands except jokingly, I know how insulting it is to have my current detectors brand attacked, all detector operators know this.

Let me be direct, call a spade a spade, you attack, insult and get personal about my brand of detector I use, you`ll get it back. Currently I`m batting for ML & XP.

There is a few reasons that you prefer your old Garrett.

Ya know Detector brands or detector models are comparable to Music in the respect that some just click with us and others just wind us up, The Musketeer and the Sovereign GT allowed me to just have fun and find lots, My Etrac and my Quatro just made me want to smash it round a tree, The help I got from the dealers just made me want to forget about the tree and let him wear it as a Tiara or a Crown, With the Musky I would happly hunt 12-14 hours a day forgoing all food and coffee and go home with my cloths white covered in Frost, In 2010 I paid about $2000 for the Etrac and I paid $660 for the Musky and I found more and the targets were deeper etc. And it never let me down.

I think that we are all in tune with certain types of machine and any others just messes with our success rate, The fun and success I had with the Musky I got back when I bought the MXT and my finds rate went up another level again even though the Musky was a Hot little machine, And the GP series is another Sleeper, Simple Set and forget and have fun,

Just because new models come out does not mean that all others stop making finds, And Non complex machines will hunt just as well or better than the over priced models, A Great example of this is the SDC, Who would of thought that a converted mine detector would have out paced 75% of the VLF's on the market, But It did/Does.

I am of the thinking that people not only has to pick a machine that suits their needs but just as important is to by one that works with them in stead of against them.

I have 3 All Time favourite Detectors and all three will match or better anything else out there, And Two of them are Built by Minelab.

I have used the ML F1A4 mine detector in SE Asia and it never let me down. I suppose that if a particular brand kept me alive doing my job I would be a little biased towards them too. We never got to use the other brands over there for shallow search so I can't comment on them.

They might be a bit over priced but I am happy to support Minelab. My life is more important than a few extra dollars. :) :)

Cheers

Yes RR, I am like each and every detector user we use what we consider is the best at a price we can afford. Just so happens the Zblue brick is my current preferred gold detector and the Black Feather is my preferred coin detector and has been for 2 years, that could change as have a CTXblue brick in the mail, should be here today. I just don`t have tolerance for bad taste, ill mannered, public knocking of any brand of detector and thus insulting their users.

The XP would have to be the best VLF on the market at present and when V4 and them HF Coil hit the streets then the XP and the Z is all you will need for a long while. Both machines are updateable Via the Internet So it can't get any better than that,

The good thing about the Z and the CTX having the same battery and body parts is that if you ever have an emergency you can use bits until the new parts turn up so that makes sense to own one.

John.

Alteration please RR, the XP would have to be the best VLF on the market, to the person who believes it is the best. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, tis an individual thing. I can joke about what I have being the best but I know that is only to me, same with vehicles, fishing rods etc etc
No I am getting the CTX because I want to check it out myself, the fact its battery fits the Z is nice but not a consideration in the purchase.

The SDC looks like the F3 and the F1A4 looks like a GP,

Ok but apart from looks what is the difference apart from the colour ?

The software is different and the controls do different things,, Some of the Mine detectors have a control lock where once you have them set up you can't adjust the controls, They are made like that so if the controls get bumped the settings remain the same so the operator in not put in any more danger.

Those Garrets look sexy (just saying) 8) :/

Yeah I was going to buy the Recon about 7 years ago and then a bit later they bought out the ATX for general use, I still like em but I am not sure what I would use it for, The main thing I like about the ATX is they work on most soils but it does not have the all out grunt of a GP or TDI.

Geeze that F3 weighs 7Lbs, I wonder how much lighter the SDC is ?.

John.

I see that the F3 has 7 sensitivity settings on the side, that would be a cool addition to the SDC-2300 MkII and keeping the 3 salt settings as well.

That great. Bit confused though, that user manual for the F3 doesn't look like the F3 you show or like the SDC ? Maybe I'm missing sumthings.

There was 2 models of the F3, One was the F3 and the other was the F3 UXO which I think had changeable Coils.
