Alma had a lot of shallow ground with some big nuggets in the 1850s goldrush days, but consequently got hit hard in the late 1970s/early 1980s when effective ground cancelling detectors became available. From Google Earth, it looks like subdivision and hobby farms have locked up and/or built over a lot of the favourable areas though. Bowenvale might be OK - back in 1982 a mate struck a good patch out that way and it still had a few nuggets on it when he let my ex-wife and I try it in 1984, so you never know your luck. ;)

The old (1880ish) Maryboro geo map is a good place to look if you want to see where the oldtime workings/alluvial leads were out that way, as many have been ploughed under over the years. I'd imagine dealers like Goldsearch in Dunolly might sell reprints.

Potbelly, I live in MaryMaryborough. Contact me if you'd like to go out for a few hours. I'm trying to meet folks and learn as much as I can.

Not sure you'd learn too much from us! Haha

Cheers mate I'll put a post up when we eventually get out :)

Spent all day in Kingower forest, smiths gully. All I have is a pocket full of trash! Anyone want to point me in the right direction??

Please!
:|

I'm still looking for a trash free-ish place myself, around Mb. Pm me and we can see what you're looking for.

PB. Here's a GeoVic map of an area North of Kingower. The speckled areas are diggings. If you've an SDC, you may want to try these areas (mullock heaps).

No link?

Got a 5000

Ended up heading down a random road before rheolo and I got these 2 but nothing else.

Was still pretty damn exciting! First gold with detector

Can't complain about that as a new,y. Iv been doing it for yonks and am happy to head for home with that rather than nothing. Good one. Though that looks like a seasoned detector hand to me, you sure your not yanking our chain and just "fishing"?

Haha I dug a lot of trash before I got the gold!

I'm hooked! just need to find a big one to buy my own 5000 now :p

Fair enough mate, digging a bit has a tendency to do that. Met a lot of "fishers" over the years, call me jaded, though I probably won't answer to it  Good luck out there.

Yeah thanks BW we are on our way home...
Had a good day yesterday though, knocked back a few tins last night and rolled out the swag. Pretty awesome area!

Coiltek were awesome. Going to do a training day next time.
Probably should have done that first!

Can't go wrong with the Coiltek crew, all pretty switched on gold wise. And they all actually detect, unlike some.
