LOL - as mad as a cut snake if its the triangle block on the corner out that way - south of Timor, to the east of Bowenvale. If that's the bloke, there was a very good run of diggings on the private land to the south of his property. Bush junk collectors, and there are many in the triangle, are best left alone. There is one near Dunolly and one out at Amherst who are as equally unsociable.

Yeah that's the bloke, I'll be following up with the cops and pushing for any charges I can lay on him. He seemed fairly serious about it, though the cop I spoke to didn't seem to think there was they could do other than word him up, she seemed to feel it needed more than just a verbal to be a serious threat.
Never had too much of a problem with bush junk collectors, bought a few good cars off a couple over the years actually, idiots on the other hand are everywhere.

Isnt that just typically bloody stupid ... Life threatened and they dont take it serious enough to act.
When someone is injured or dead ... We'll take over
This has been a good warning post
Just stay the hell away from there

This is typical of the authorities. Like that bloody ***** that took those hostages in the caf in Sydney. The Police knew about him for years but did nothing. Had him out on bail pending a trial for possible murder of his wife.

wombat ;)

Sounds similar to another high profile goldfields case where people were threatened for years before one prospector was shot & his body never recovered.
These type of threats need to be taken seriously - if they are saying that sort of thing then it's only a matter of time until they act on it & someone gets hurt or worse. Good on you for following up on it bend.

Still going to have a shot at ruining his week through the local authorities and if not I like the idea of making the corner of ipsens and reservoir the spot me and a few of the boys meet up for a day of detecting.
I doubt he'll try his hand with a few people watching him, and if he gets mouthy it'll be on mobile video. Might be able to get something past the blues with that too.

Sounds to me like hes got more than a junk pile he wants to protect, Tell the cops you suspect him of growing dope or hes cooking meth and they should investigate. tell the local sitting member as well. theres a war on ice at the moment.

Its very true and they will do anything to make it somewhere or grow whatever etc. An old sawmill had been turne binto one of these houses I stumbled across with foils and lighting all up the roof and walls..bikie symbols and blood. Big warning for these days with these fears. Its destroying the locals communities here fast..

Sometimes the people who are meant to help are involved themselves so who is there to help you then when everyone is dodgy..

I'll be up for that bend, it's closer than i originally thought, and i love to stir up hardcases every once in a while to call them out how TRULY gutless they really are.

If ya decide to do this, give me a yell and i'll be there with bells on. BTW, i'm 6'4 in old money and 105kg so no shrinking violet here buddy.

Maybe try a passive approach.
Inciting a riot could land you in more trouble than it is worth.
By all means stand for your rights but when things go pear shaped remember,
You can't run faster than a bullet and it is you who won't be around.
Play safe people. :D

Sounds to me we have found a place for a weekend meet and greet........
Would even be worth the drive down from Canberra.......
20 odd prospectors, dogs, loud music might even bring some fireworks :)

Not good Guy's
Please, No Shooting, tooting or along those lines.
.
It has been nominated that there is an area guarded by a person who thinks they own the place.
May I suggest that you carry a discreet camera and record what happens.
Or along those lines.
Too many hot heads these days,
Don't give them ideas.
Cheers

Yep maybe a show of support rather than a show of force, with prospectors well armed with video cameras and phones. I am a big believer in standing up for our rights, but I'd hate to see or hear something about a digger getting shot by a local nut job over the principal of it. I usually head out around Marybough when I'm over the GT so I'm not overly keen on some ***** running around with a gun, if it can be stopped asap, I think thats got to be in the public interest not just prospectors.

Well i'm still up for it to bring him down a peg or two.....but will leave the firearms at home, he doesn't sound like he's worth the ammo (it would be too easy, no challenge), just a local loudmouth bully who needs some educatin.... and a few witness's to go to the locals boys in blue to collaborate his behavior & threats. Then if he does have firearms, he won't for long and we'll take the sting out of his tail.

Then let's see the blue wall try and brush it off....

Thanks for posting this Bend. So glad I've read this post. I'm heading down that way in October. Scary stuff from my point of view, barely reaching the 5ft mark.

I'll be keeping my eyes and ears a lot wider open now when I venture out into the bush.

Stay safe you guys

I'm all for protecting our rights but some people are just not worth pushing too far even if the boys in blue are involved. It's happened before and will happen again . Know a bloke who copped it years ago and still pays for it every day of his life , luckily for him not too bad but he got lucky. Give the crazys a wide berth.

I'd like to suggest we create a address book of areas to be avoided. Known trouble areas if you like.

I'm all for standing our ground and protecting our rights, but sh!t happens and fore warned is fore armed in my book.

I personally prospect alone and prefer the solitude of doing so, I don't wish to walk into someone else's hornets nest and reap what they have sowed. :(

None of us want any trouble. It's just plain counterproductive to what we're all about. I also detect alone, but not so much by choice, it's just a timing thing usually. The problem is, if we start avoiding areas that idiots illegally claim as their own patch, everbody is just gunna start doing that and then where ro you go? I still think a show of strength in form of a meet on the patch would send a msg that we won't be pushed around by anybody laying claim to any area. I mean this guy, Nundle guy, how many more are there? They're not above the law, and while we go about our legal hobby on public land we are in the right. Lets not forget that.

How many places are there to avoid? My understanding is this guy's private property has it's boundary adjoining State Park, if that's the case he is legally on his land and can't be moved.
In that case you simply avoid that boundary area, your not giving up much for our security? I do prospect in the Maryborough area but won't be going to Reservoir Road, not that I did before anyway?

When you use escalation as your rules of engagement, and both sides stand their ground there can be only one outcome.

I never went there anyway either, I think you are missing the point. While he's on his land it's not a problem, when he tries to threaten and intimidate ppl on public land it is a problem. It's not his to get territoral over. Now consider he decides the patch he's running ppl away from all of a sudden isn't good enough for him and he decides to run ppl off other patches. Best nipped in the bud I reckon. He might not be oing anywhere, but niether is the crown land his property borders. He's just gotta get used to truth.

My mate an I had a bloke and his dad?? come down is his ute, saying locals had rang him and told him that someone was on his block. His property joins onto a NCR in Wedderburn. We had a "polite" discussion about the fact that I was on the correct side of the fence followed by him telling us he was going back to get his gun and let of a few rounds over our heads. With that we headed back to my fourby and went elsewhere. Went back the next day and simply stayed away from his fence line. It's never a nice feeling having to retreat, but you've gotta pick your battles and considering he has probably had blokes jump his fence (he has a very rich field for a front paddock) I could understand his frustration. I just didn't appreciate his tact and hollow threats.
