Just a post to let members know that a further post I made doubling down on criticisms about the S7 issue has, after review by moderators, been withdrawn.
I have been correctly reminded that interpretation of the changes as representing a ban on recreational prospecting in areas designated as S7 are yet to be confirmed with absolute certainty by government sources.
This also requires that I take some action in this regard and I have already sent a request by email for clarification to Parks Vic, who I believe would be responsible for policing illegal prospecting on Crown land. I am hoping for a better result than the lack of response given to Oz Geology following his earlier enquiries.
I will post again when and if a response is obtained.
I have also been reminded that posts should not contain any political referencing and this I also accept and withdraw any suggestions that politicians of any political persuasion should be approached at this time until further clarification is obtained
Access to areas for recreational prospecting is something dear to my heart and remember the anguish caused to many of us by the proposed Box Ironbark regulations in 2002. The actions of the PMAV and its members among others were responsible for many of the prime prospecting areas of the GT remaining open to this day. I sincerely apologise for letting my emotions get in the way good forum conduct.

The video is horrible and as clear as mud.
Someone raging against something without clearly explaining what’s happening doesn’t help any one.

I think they will have trouble policing these areas. There are some who prospect at 2am in the morning with no head lamps etc and have been doing so for along time. Are they going to monitor these areas 24/7? 365 days a year.
If you look at your Property Title, it should state how deep you own . Mine is 5 mts

I doubt any response will be given to anyone requesting correspondence with any Ministers.
That is my personal experiences with top end Gov Departments ( Public Servants ) ...
Place a name on a public pedestal notice board results maybe more promising.

Im still confused by all of this. So, this is not a NEW law or whatever, but a change to an old one. On Geovic, none of the colours, green, blue or red, are available to us amatuer fossickers, right? Did the government give a reason for these changes? And these changes were immediately put in place without telling people? It would have been fair to send an email to all people with a Victorian fossicking license.
So these changes are final, and not on some sort of trial? Very very confused.
I presume these changes were put in place due to bad behaviour, such as littering or digging massive holes, so it would be much fairer if they toughened laws on those things rather than outright banning prospecting.
If all these restrictions are being made, they should make us a map which shows where you CAN fossick so we dont have to crosscheck between the banned creeks, exempt forests and now geovic.
Some serious changes need to be made on this. Problem is, the odds of the government even listening to our recommendations are very slim. Sorry for this rant!
