Yeh I know, but still. Nothing good was going to come of arguing the point any further. I could tell his was full of it and he didn't scare me. I didn't notify the boys in blue, coz I knew nothing would come of it. One thing I've learned over the years of knocking round is that you cant judge a book by it's cover. Psychos can take many forms and it's usually the ones you'd least expect that you've gotta keep your eye on. Not the loud mouths.

like the OP said, it was his calm nonchalant demeanor that was troubling.

I never went there anyway either, I think you are missing the point. While he's on his land it's not a problem, when he tries to threaten and intimidate ppl on public land it is a problem. It's not his to get territoral over. Now consider he decides the patch he's running ppl away from all of a sudden isn't good enough for him and he decides to run ppl off other patches. Best nipped in the bud I reckon. He might not be oing anywhere, but niether is the crown land his property borders. He's just gotta get used to truth.

You're right about that, but as I've said on 4umer I'd not like to see anyone shot because we underestimated the threat. I'm pursuing the matter through the police and trying to find out more about him and whether or not he's a real threat or just a blowhard before taking any action that might put myself or anyone else in danger. Hopefully putting a bit of pressure on the blues to actually do something will be enough in any case, it's certainly the outcome I'd prefer.

As far as it goes a list of dangerous idiots is actually a pretty good idea, we might be in the right but it doesn't help much when they pop up out of nowhere and start making threats. Forewarning that they're in the area is a good idea, especially if you're thinking about trying somewhere you haven't been before or somewhere remote.

If the boys in blue find it a bit of a chore,... emails to your local member(and others)as well as the police minister and the media(all sent at once) gets a ball rolling, as when they get it it also shows who else got the email, the fact that there are a few high profilers on it as well as the media will get them swinging into action in a polite and thorough manner. ;)

I'm all for the attitude of the "Black Knight" in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Trouble with this way of doing things (if tales of the local "blue" reputation is true) is it sets the complainant up as a future target for the "blue" to have fun with.... they will see it as a dent in their pride and look to get even.

I think the OP is going the right way about it myself, then "if ALL ELSE" fails" perhaps this would be a LAST resort in my opinion.

I agree,.. It's an avenue that should not be abused or used lightly at all,....as it's just a failsafe tool to use when nothing is going to happen regardless of tactics used,....very effective strategy that I learned by direct observation of a politician and how they were using it to cause a certain huge business to be caused to jump into action so that no negative media attention could arise from a lack of direct action.(that's why they sent it to all concerned plus the politicians involved directly and indirectly as well as the media). :D

Ok so I dropped in on the station today, they said if anything further is to be done they'll contact me in the next couple of weeks and that they'd been out to have a word with him, they didn't seem very inclined to share too much info with me though which is fair enough. I reminded them that I found the calmness fairly worrying and am concerned that he's not just a blowhard, not sure if it will go any further at this stage, just have to wait and see I suppose. If I don't hear anything in a week or two I'll follow up again, in the meantime I'll keep my ears open for anyone else who's had problems with him. A bloke I know from my schooldays who used to live near there reckons there's a good chance he would try something if he thought he could get away with it so that's a definite concern and I passed that info along as well.

You could ask the super what if any action has been taken, as you are planning(or would like to plan) on a return trip to go detecting on the weekend or in the near future, and that you would like assurances that your safety issues have been addressed and appropriate actions undertaken,... ask him for the job number so you can find out at the front counter in future instead of taking up his time. :)

Believe me guys I'm no shrinking violet but you've gotta ask yourself the question is it worth it? So many areas to detect. If not are you prepared to follow through and risk everything, not just for yourself but your family as well.

I recon let the police handle him, and just follow it up with them to make sure all is well in that corner of the world,.............. things change over time, people come and go,... it's always different in the same place,... in the end we all travel the last road down that same track,...and until then(and beyond) the world will just keep on turning, with that endless sunrise being enjoyed as something very special,...and from time to time, giving its endless pleasures as emotional joy beyond bounds as it puts forth heavenly gems of untold beauty for to cast our eyes upon. :)

Not much rhyming though SCROUNGER,... turned into a bit of prose at the end though I suppose. :D

A mate and I have managed to line up a couple of properties to detect at Maryborough..

Both had gold found on them 20+ years ago so I think we are in with a chance...

Neither of us have much detecting experience and will be hiring detectors for a couple of days. I don't think my xlt give me the best chance...

Just after some advice on what would've the best detectors to hire.??

Thanks!
PB

If its shallow workings and you are just going over mullock heaps - an SDC 2300

If its deeper ground then maybe a GPX5000 or GPZ7000. Bearing in mind these machine take a bit of learning so you may not get the best out of them over a cpl of days.

Cheers mate, would it be worth grabbing a 2300 and a 5k to cover both? Will they interfere with each other??
One property is at alma near Maryborough I'll find out where the other is...
