Week 1 over today.
Started at 91kg, I'm only 170cm tall.
Eating much less, no beer, coke, calorie counting. I'm 88kg today. Walking a 9.5km circuit on my days off, and 5km after work.
Start swimming tomorrow, plus the 9km walk, and low cals. Target is about 80kg. Smashing it hard for 1st 2 weeks, then up the calories a bit, to a more realistic level continue exercises.

Good on you, Dave. I lost 40kg by eating low carb. No sugar or softdrinks, and very little pasta, rice, potatoes, bread etc. Eggs for breakfast every morning, and eat the fat off your bacon, chops and steak. Not paleo as I eat dairy, but mainly live on protein, fat, green veg and salads. I aim for 60 to 80 g of carbs a day. Once you are used to the diet you don't get hungry, either, so it's easy to stick with.

I've got my diabetes under control now, which is why low carb works for me. Blood sugar was 28 when I got diagnosed, and Hb1C is now 5.5, which is normal.

I go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week and lift weights, but the losing weight bit is 80% what you eat.

Keep it up mate, and good luck.

Mike- I used to be three of you, now I'm only two!

Most impressive and you're correct its the sugar. Stay healthy, you need about 1400 cals last I read for normal body function.
Fabulous result, are we going to get weekly update?

Great start Dave.
Interesting topic this, many times it has been discussed about the weight gain when the **** are given the flick.
Can't find it written anywhere which is the greater detriment to heath, smoking or weight gain?
Suppose it was more good luck than management my grandfather lived to 85yo. He started the day with a smoke then a rain water shower straight from the overhead tank (no heating) summer, autumn, winter, spring.
When he wasn't eating he had a smoke in his mouth all day and another rollie behind his ear to light up when one finished.

Great work mate keep it up. The first week or two is always the hardest and after that once your in some sort of routine you will be looking forward to your workout if not already.

Yep, my old dad used to go through 80 to 100 Rothman's per day. He would light up when he woke up, and apart from taking a shower, he constantly smoked until bedtime at 11:00pm. He used to wave his hands about while talking, and I can't remember him not having a smoke burning and taking drags in between sentences.

Unfortunately, he did not live a long life, but killed himself in a car accident at 42. Ironically, while he used to often drive after a few drinks, he was sober on that occasion. I remember him driving from the pub near his office in Ashfield on a Friday night to Cronulla, back the car down a steep driveway with a dog leg in it, into a narrow garage, and then he could not walk from the car to the house. I reckon he put all his effort into getting home, and had nothing left for the walk up the stairs.

Good on ya Dave, keep it up mate,

5 years ago I was 89kgs and then I was not good and then I lost just over 23kgs in 33 days and weighed 66kgs, last month I weighed 83kgs now I am down to 76kgs, So if I can get down to about 70 I will be happy,

having less weight sure makes life easier.

Good Luck, Dave.

Crikey, John, how did you lose 23kg in 33 days? You must have had a tape worm like an anaconda!

No worries, RR. Yep, problems can do that to you. Hopefully life is better now mate.

Like all things, Hit and miss, Now I am losing weight for a reason, because I want to get back in to prospecting, And if I don't get in shape then I won't be able to do it,

One thing I notice though is I can cover more distance with less weight, So if I loose enough and stay healthy then It won't be such a task to carry all my gear, So it has an up side to it,

I know Dave will feel the difference and getting out there will be more enjoyable.

John.

Yep, i've just had a session over the past couple of months and put on 6 kilos and i feel *****. Fat gut, no energy and puffed just putting my shoes on. When i was down around 75/76 kilos i felt great, just need to get off the crap food such as chips and ice cream. When i was younger i could eat anything and remain like a bean pole, now in my sixties i just look at junk food and i get a fat gut and run out of puff.
It's amazing now i'm older how little food i can eat to hold my healthy wait of around 75 kegs.
Good luck all and try and stay healthy while you can, it's an old cliche, but if you ain't got your health you got nothing.

Great to see you lot are getting healthy :)

I'm sitting at about 80kgs, 5"10 15%body fat

Older i get the harder it is, i need to pick up the cardio and healthy eating a lot more.

It's amazing what cutting sugar can do to your body and health.
Sugar is killing us really, but it's in almost anything unless it's fresh and homemade.

Keep it up guys :)

RJ often says if there is no pic it did not happen, so here is my "before pic." There is no way that dinner jacket would do up around my middle!

Currently, I'm a few kilos less than in the Avatar pic.
