Hey Wolfau,

I agree with you 100% as well. It depends which side of the fence you are on.

If I were Mr Minelab I would charge as much as possible. They do have good after sales support, warranty and resale value for their older models.

I am not sure about stated warranty but under Australian consumer law the warranty period for a $10,000 dollar detector would be a lot more than say 12 months.

e.g. An ALDI detector has a 12 month warranty and costs $99. The GPX has a 12 month warranty period and is $10,000. If the ALDI packs it in over 12 months, bad luck. I would think that a 3 to 5 year warranty for a $10,000 detector would fly with the ACCC/Ombudsman. I think the term used is "implied warranty" relative to item price.

Branding and marketing are everything in retail. I watched a doco about marketing and branding, basically in the end if people are getting your logo/brand tattooed on their bodies. you have made it. e.g. Harley Davidson logo, Rolling Stones lips etc.

Look at my Avatar, its "my" brand. I have built it up by posting and it would be lost in effect if I kept changing my avatar pic. I recognise forum members like Twapster, Sandta, Redfin, Ramjet, Silver, Wally69, Heatho and more simply by glancing at new posts and recognising their "brand/logo". I have also built up a mental model of what type of person they are by their post contents and if they are trustworthy, its human nature, its just what we do.

So with that in mind, who's up for a Minelab tatt? At the price of the GPX it should come free!

Just re read my post and edited it, I have gone off on a few tangents???????????? :8

Ok' but I not telling where The Coil is getting Put, lol

I tried to change my Avatar but now matter how small I made it, It kept telling me it was too big,

Anyway back on track, My machine has got A 2 year warranty, Some even life time warranties, So I think this new one should come with at leased with a 3 year warranty and what would be cool is if Minelab started servicing machines that are over 10 years old because I don't think people should have to ditch their pride and joy just because Minelab don't want to repair it, It would be a Bugger if Holden, Ford and Toyota thought the same way,

Just because a new model comes out doesn't mean the superseded model automatically stop finding gold.

Remember that the nuggets found you read about on the internet [like the 87oz yesterday] represent less than 1% of what is actually found.
I visit the Gt for 4 days every fortnight and each trip hear of all sorts of finds, small and large, near and far.
And i wouldn't dare repeat that information on a public forum.
If I or others have great success with the 7000 will I post it here, No way sunshine.
Only a stupid few will do that.
I will share how it works, settings etc but that is it.

Hi mate, "Only a stupid few will do that" - just to clarify things, your not saying that those of us who show some of our finds here on the forum to support the forum and give inspiration to new folks are "stupid"?

I really get a kick out of seeing members finds, It gives some of us less fortunate members the drive to get out there, So Yes it is Very Important, Along with increasing the Post count and bring New Members to the Forum, The finds and the stories behind them are what keeps the forum going,

John

I for one "Post" 100% of the "Gold" I find on many forums, I even give a general location, the "Gold" is only mine once I have it in my hand & like what has been said here, I like to show the newcomers what is being found to inspire them.

I can understand people not wanting undue attention, but have a think about it we all love to see "Gold" on here, here is an idea - post your finds say 1 month after finding it or once you have finished working that area, just to cover your tracks!!! personally I don't do this but it is something I may do in the future if the need arises.
cheers

A gpx and how many ounces on top? Better is better but that's a few nuggets tucked away under the bed in my eyes. I hope the Jupiter hits multi grammers at 4 feet, while those entrusted with their gpx can go quietly about their business on the back blocks. Anyone wanna take a guess where that leaves the pricing on the extreme with some bulk accesories? Might be a coil swinger yet for less than a clapped out 300,000 km car with reg and roady. Go Jupiter go!

For the record its already been said. Under australian consumer law the warranty period extends to a period within reason which a consumer would expect it to last. Ive got an sd2000 was made in 1994 its been around the country throught four owners....

your gonna have to give it the Key of the Door this year, It's 21 years old this year. Not many machines are going that are the same age as that and its still finding stuff, now that's impressive,

You guys really should read the specs before starting even more wild speculation. It says 3 year warranty on control box and coil.

Well in all fairness Minelabs Normal warranty for their Machines, and No One has seen the Machine, Coil or Control Box,

So Well Done Minelab For Staying ahead of the Game and Giving a 3 year Warranty,

You really have to be carefull.
A few years ago when Mrs Redfin got her GPX5000 I thought it would be beneficial for her to do the days training that came with the machine.
Always easier coming from a 3rd party.
When the "Instructer" found out who her father all was he was interested in was pumping her for info as to past and present locations, private and crown land.

When we go out for a swing I always stop on the track for 10 minutes halfway just to make sure there is nobody behind us.

I believe reason for Minelab to price in US$ is to simplify selling across the world. Pretty hard to deal with for example African countries and ask them to pay in AU$, much simpler for all counties to pay in US$ being the main world currency. On the other side of the coin, if the Aussie $ had risen and not fallen against US$, then we would be paying less for the 7000 than in the US.

But...There is an upside

Gold per ounce in US: $1244
Gold per ounce in AU: $1592

Gold is worth more here than in the US, so the tonnes of gold the 7000 should be pulling from the ground will be worth more here than in the US. Let's hope it lives up to the hype...

But that doesn't work, Because minelab U.S.A. doesn't supply Australia's Detectors and what ever the gold market is doing does not relate to the Aussie Dollar only the Exchange Rate for Dollar per Dollar does.
Because the gold is sold to brokers in Australia and if they want to export that gold that is their loss No One is forcing them to sell it on to overseas buyers, That's up to them
There is no way should this be A burden for Aussie Detector/Prospector to endure As to using the Exchange Rate as an Excuse to Fleece The Australian Public when they are Buying An Australian Product. Because the Pound is worth $1.91 the last time I checked and if that was the standard then we would have to pay over $20,000 for the GPZ, Like I said the US Dollar has nothing to do with the cost of them in Australia, Unless Minelab are selling them all to the US and Australia is Having to buy them Back, which is 2 lots of freight One each way plus import Duty and why would they do that, It just doesn't make sense.

john

It costs 4000 pounds to buy a brand new GPX 5000 here in the UK. Or $7844AUD
5795USD or 7445AUD in America.
Brand new in Australia, $6100 from miners den. or 4748USD / 3111GBP

Last time I checked the prices for detectors currently on the market did not fluctuate with our dollar.
The price of the GPZ will have been figured out a while ago, for every market, it's not going to change a few weeks before launch.
