Not so funny pic!
On another post showed a pic of the "Octopus" specie I found and the mention I came to grief getting out in my then new beaut ute.
Found the old pic, fortunately no trees to bump into on the lake crossing. When these roads get wet there is no stopping if you begin to slide. You have to straddle the crown of the road.

I learnt a lesson on a salt lake crossing at Lake Disappointment WA on the Canning stock route (no road, just the wheel tracks of those who crossed the lake there before). Lovely and firm because of many people crossing over the years - but just slide one metre off into the salt next to the wheel tracks - and you will find that the mud is very deep. Amazing how tyres can consolidate something. Extremely remote - fortunately had full recovery gear.
