Top effort that man!!

Great stuff Spike, I eagerly await your report from the shallow lead you mention, should be interesting

Ok guys, did this hole over 3 x half days so all in about 10 hours. Chose a spot where I'd previously got fine stuff from crevices from past floods.checked it on geovic and it showed its in a shallow lead. The gutter in gully had been cleaned by old timers but you can see on nearby hill where gold travelled so drew a straight line between the 2 and dug about a meter from gutter. Got bitten by ants and March flies but battled on. Wash was just above bedrock was 2 inches thick, bottom was 4.5ft. Put the lot through blower but in separate batches (wash and overburden). Got more from wash but still very little really. Old blokes must have got more from dug out gutter. Ready to do a new one tomorrow, hope to find more soon.
I can feel a deep one coming soon!

not bad, i would suggest that looking at how flat the gold is there will be more fines in the mud. always worth taking a good sample of the waste off your drywasher and panning it out later to see.

I started with the overburden, so wash stuff is still ontop of the filled hole. Will test a big bucket soon and see. Cheers

Haha it is addictive.
I just got 20L of unbroken stuff from washy clay, puddled it, got only 5 specks from it. Not really worth it today but in the right spot it would pay. Will do it each time now to see :)

well done again Spike and even in this heat...awesome effort.

Just a side thought, are you shovelling your tailings back through the blower every now and then? Always pays to be extra sure you got it all.

I'm gonna have to join you in digging a hole one day

I really wish I didn't sell my gpx4500, at the moment I'm too poor to buy a detector so won't know whether the biggy is 1 inch away 8.( . Anyone think a real cheap would still do or at depth in the hole would it be too mineralised and useless? For now I gotta do it just like the old fellas
