Thanks Heatho, I did have a go with the CTX mounted with the 17" coil, and it's a big bugger to wield, though not quite as heavy as I thought it would be - defintely not a junky park coil. :D

I did get a chance today to give the 13" coil a run for the first time, with an 1875 threepence being its first victim of the day. Most of the afternoon passed by with a variety of bullets, cartridges, shotgun shells and lead making up the bulk of the finds.

Before heading home I ran the Deus back around a tree where a deep threepence was found with the Racer 2, and dug some pretty dodgy sounding targets, being an 1874 threepence, and a Hall & Savage button from Adelaide. Pretty much down to digging any repeatable tone now, regardless of where they fall on the conductivity spectrum. I suspect those last two targets were sitting on edge, hence were very hard to pick up on.

As for the new large coil, it's a dream to swing and really no harder to fling about the place than the 11". Using the arm strap is a must, not due to the overall weight, more to do the balance being slightly based towards being coil heavy.

One thing to note was that my headphones did not work with the new coil today, as I forgot to turn on the headphones when entering the coil serial number into the main control unit. This would usually update both the remote and main control box at the same time with the new coil option, so all I have to do is go back and select the orignal 11" coil, re-validate the new coil on both controllers, then I should be good to go.

Sometimes it pays to read the instructions properly, rather than being a typical bloke. :8

Love those old silvers GP, well done mate. Wish I could get ones that old around here.

Ha, my wallet only opens for grog, food and detecting gear. :) Wonder what they'd say if I walked into the shop with the CTX and fired it up. :p

Thanks Heatho, they don't come easily, only wo coins for roughly 6 hours of detecting - not a location for the impatient. :)

Out for a couple hours this arvo with Mrs Goldpick on the Racer 2 in search of some relics. I didn't get much with the Deus, only a couple of buckles and a "H.Gardiner & Co - Bristol" button, amongst many other non-ferrous junk targets. To makes things easier on the Racer 2, we switched it to two tones, and wound back the iron volume due to the sheer amount of iron junk in the ground, and running default sensitivity.

Mrs Goldpick managed to pick up an 1896-1897 SA dog tag that was only a few inches down, probably the best condition tag I've seen yet - zero oxidation, just a nice patina. :)

Ooo, that is a nice dog tag, real showcase item too.
Well done on that score Mrs Gp. ;)

After a bit of a hiatus between weddings and an operation, Mrs Goldpick and myself managed to get out today inbetween rainstorms to clean up on some new finds.

Mrs Goldpick had a go on the revitalised Teknetics G2, with new control box cover from Pro-tectors in the UK, and a new NEL Hunter 12.5" x 8.5" coil to try out. She did pretty good, with a swag of sinkers, sixpence, penny, buckle, and a few decimal coins to keep her busy, the G2 is a very simple detector to use and quite an effective coin hunter. I usually get her to run discrimination around 63-64 so she still pick up on the 50/50 threepences with a high tone, and lower conductors giving a grunt (iron discriminated out), though as you can see in the pic, she initially had the discrimination set at 75 until I showed her that she was possibly missing 50/50 threepences and sixpences with it set that high. :D

I was armed with the usual Deus, but out with the 13"11" coil this time. I did reasonably well on the pre-decimals, with two half pennies, three pennies, three sixpence, and one lone threepence - not to mention a gadzillion sinkers. The silvers are going to take some cleaning to look respectable, whereas the coppers are pretty much toasted.

Once again a few old fishing lures turned up, didn't find any 1800's brass spinners as per last time, though we only had a few hours and concentrate on one area before heading home.

Next time out we will give the Racer 2 a good run, along with the MarsMD Tiger 10"x13" coil, and Makro RC26 10"5.5" coil to have a play with. :)

Must dig all the sinkers, they give off a nice mellow coin tone and can ID high in the coin range, and as low as the gold range, depending on the size of the sinker. I don't mind digging them, they just become a bit of a pain when your finds bag starts to weigh a few kilos. :)
